I'm going to be in Italy for a week in September after the F1 race. I submitted my application to Ferrari for the tour over a month ago. I just found out that there are no openings the entire week that I'll be in Italy. Bummer! I know that the museum is nice and there are other things to see. I am disappointed though.

You have to remember that the factory is closed the entire month of August and a ton of people are going to the F1 race.

But look at the bright side: You have a good excuse to visit again!

I am surprised that your dealer didn't go overboard to try and make this happen for you.

I would call FNA directly and plead my case. With Italians, the impossible can always be made possible, with the right attitude.

While the tour may be a highlight, I wouldn't let it discourage you. The real soul and history of Ferrari is found in the memorabilia of restaurants like Montana and Cavallino, in the Galleria's museums, and poking around the side streets in Maranello. You'll be surprised what you can see peeking through garage doors.

Do more than camp out near the factory gates --- go for a drive in the nearby hills (but stay in your lane, lest a 458 comes roaring toward you!). Check out Fiorano and listen for the wail of a Piloti or Cliente program. Watch the go-kart racing just outside of town.

Go to the grocery store, and pick up some impossibly sugar laden treats. Enjoy the architecture of the wind tunnel. Watch it from different angles catch the light of the day differently.

There's a whole lot going on outside the factory walls... and it can be really quite enjoyable.

Nate.....for the most of September Ferrari tour invitations are limited due to the Italian Grand Prix. Tours seem to be available only to dignitaries, special customers, sponsors, etc. I know this because although I have toured the factory 4 times we have been turned down in September for this reason.

Like Daniel said there are other great places to go in and around Modena-Maranello. You can get into Maserati factory or maybe Lamborghini near Bologna. Look up the Pannini collection.....a cheese farm outside of Modena that holds one of the largest Maserati collections in the world. And their parmesian-reggiano cheese is outstanding. The Righini collection, 300 cars in a castle is incredible, but you have to have connections.

I will try to find the name of one of the best small family run restaurants in Modena. Informal and inexpensive just have them bring you their specialties of the house. Fantastico.

Thanks everyone. The second best part of Ferrari ownership is being part of this forum. Driving them is obviously the first.

Don't waste your time. Ferrari could give two sh*ts. I tried scheduling a tour a year before I went, around the holidays... I was there for three weeks. They could not tell me when the factory was going to be closed and unavailable until the week I got there.... and I called 1 YEAR in advance, and followed up every month from the summer until I got there.

I think this is completely wrong. Ferrari at Maranello go out of their way to help. Management and staff are accessible and courteous. In fact I arranged for a tour in February 2011 for Tuesday following Monza 2011 and it is confirmed for 14.30. that day.
I suggest the original poster PM me. I may be able to help. No promises. Away from the office currently.

Let's see if he gets in, then we'll see who is right. My guess is, I'm right, but I'd love to be corrected.

As long as the place is open they can get you in for a tour if they want. They've got high school kids they can call up that act as tour guides.(at least they did a short while back) If you can't get anywhere over here show up and plead your case and see if they can hook you up? You'll need to push a bit as the guard gate's first reaction will be to turn you away. If you haven't done the tour before the rest if fluff so I'd push for the tour or reschedule.

Boardwalk just submitted a request on my behalf and it looks like the first open spot they had was in July. They said that they take requests really far out. my guess is certain weeks are busy than others based on vacationers.

I'm bummed out as well, but ill definitely be planning ahead next time :) They said it is very worth the trip.

He also mentioned the museum and town are worth a go as well, im just going for business so will probably go back and visit for a bit longer next year.

What about the Pagani factory, from what I heard they used to be pretty informal with tours but it might've changed recently (especially with the new car and the new factory).

At least ask to be placed on a wait list in case some one cancels at the last minute. Go to the factory that day and ask if any one cancelled. If you play it right I'd say you have a shot at getting in.

Does anybody know if I can take a train to Maranello? Or, is it best to drive there? Thanks.

We took the train from Milan to Modena. Caught a cab at the train station and that took us to Maranello. As I remember, it was about a 30 minute ride.

Back in 1989 my entire family stopped by the factory for an impromtu visit during our 2 month Euro vacation. Not only did they take us in, but showed us ALL over the factory, including Enzo's place. This was 1989, not even a year after Enzo passed. I met Piero Lardo and got some brochures and took home the greatest memories ever. That day was my 18th birthday, we also ate at Cavallino for lunch. It was a great day.

Of course if you time it right, the most exciting event may take place outside of the factory, like meeting Fernando at Montana...
