I have been thinking of this for a while.

Would it be competitive? Would other more traditional 4wd supercars as lambos, gtr, fair better?

What's the front rear torque split in wrc cars? I seem to remember it was a fixed 50/50, and I believe it being fixed helps the driver predict the car's reaction, where a vectoring system as the FF's would not be suitable.

    Any ideas?

    Absolutely no way.

It´s heavy and it would barely fit in narrow roads. Even the much sportier 360 felt out of place in rallyes.

True, but given a proportionally adequate track would its 4rm system keep up with an r8' an aventador, a gtr or a 911 turbo? Or would its limited front power shift put it at a disadvantage?

More specifically, imagine fo example the frozen lake track featured in top gear where the ff was beaten by the continental because of the better spiked tyres. On same spec tyres would the ff be the fastest 4wd supercar?

Some users have reported that the FF 4WD heats up (display message) after some playing around in the snow. Does not promise well as a rally car basis.

I guess the front traction components were made to be in use just a small amount of time maybe? And not 100% as the multiple clutch plates would wear out too quickly?

Wonder if in second and fourth the front gearbox matches the back one's ratios and the heat comes down because of no slippage. If I remember well they never do...

Guess he means lighter and smaller.

BTW does your ff ever give you temperature warnings at the front clutches?

No warnings whatsoever yet..........which either means mine's a good car or I'm a p***y driver.

Let me tell you, the jury's out!

The warning message being referenced is from another thread where the owner reported an overheat message after ten consecutive donuts and much spirited snow drifting and driving. The system isn't meant to be a direct replacement for a WRC style three differential system but flat spins like that build up a lot of heat no matter what you have.

I guess that's why Loeb has an Aventador, shame, but the ff is still my favourite car at the moment

Showing Up To Practice In An Aventador :)

It's also the reason why the Aventador's handling has been compared to an Audi RS5... That's the problem with permanent AWD systems

I think at this point that the porsche 918 solution with electric drive at the front and hybrid at the back, full torque vectoring and rear wheel steering would be one step ahead of the competition in an ipothetical supercars all terrains kind of competition, Aventador 2nd, ff 3rd, gtr 4th, r8/gallardo 5th, sls electric drive 6th

It was I who wrote the message about the 4wd system overheating after three consecutive rounds of ten "doughnuts". That is quite an extreme situation that normally never would happen. Today I had a deserted air field covered in 8 cm of snow and a great little track around it at my disposal. I drove lap after lap with sensational fun and tons of sliding in CST off mode. The car did not miss a beat and I felt like I was in a rally group B car. Wow! WHAT A CAR! I felt really safe in the car and could do controlled slides from left to right and right to left in 120 km/h. The traction was just brilliant and a launch control start with such a slippery surface was quite unbelievable. Also very impressive is the build quality of the car: no rattles what so ever when going 130 km/h over snow covered tarmac. My conclusion: the car including the 4wd system is just brilliant and you can tell that Ferrari spent many years on completing it.
