It's the special car built for 50 years of Ferrari in Japan, like the F60 America for the US 60 years. Should be 10 cars at 2.5M based of the 488...
Except maybe for a red dot on the hood as a tribute to the Japanese flag and to help justify the extra two million on the price tag !
I'm interested to see what Greg means about the Barchetta look. Any idea when the public will get to see this car? I'm assuming you saw photos/renderings at the Cavalcade?
There is no way the hype is more crazy than Ferrari released the "Dragon Edition" in the year of Dragon in China. I bet the person who came up with that idea was getting a big fat bonus that year. The red dot is under the clear coat, not just a sticker mind you. Totally worth the extra 2,000,000 yen.
Same thing happened with the F60. Limited to 10 cars, all blue, they said. Then they delivered 2 yellow cars, 1 red, 1 white, 1 black...
Quite frankly the Laf A was a surprising move from them. The lucky few who got an allocation are supposed to be among Ferrari's best customers. It still blows my mind that they would ask for something close to $2m and yet refuse any color choice. To add insult to the injury, the official reason is that whoever is painting the cars is behind schedule and cant afford to waste time on 100 LaF Aperta, while at the same time they are producing 350 one-off paintjobs for the 70th anniversary cars... Go figure. Any idea when we'll see pictures of that FJ50 ?
But at least they also delivered the TdF engine. A 488 for that price sure as hell should be something special. I mean, even the Anniversary editions aren't priced that high. What is this 2+ million dollar 488? A 488 with 800 hp, HY-KERS and a carbon fiber tub? Or is the price just like the F60 where Ferrari get's to charge what they want? Unless it's really unique, technically, that price for a 488 is just insane. Anyway, by Barchetta I think something with no humps making it less Targa like - a bit like the Sergio, brrr!
I think it will have the 488 Challenge Strada drive-train and chassis, plus having a barchetta (targa like) body will definitely make it unique! Not sure if worth 2.5M, but definitely special!
