    Hey Y'all,

The flashlight that came with my F430 is cesed (battery leaked and corroded the cap to the body) and for the life of me I can not get the cap off. I used the bellow rubber strap wrenches as to not scratch up or damage it and although I was able to get some significant force into it, it did not budge.
Anyone have success getting a ceased cap off, how did you do it?

Spray it several times over a couple days with WD40 or other penetrating oil.

    (I assume you mean seized.)

I thought about that but then the actual light is watertight. It's got o-rings on both ends so I don't think any penetrating oil or WD-4 is going to get into the threads

Spray it several times over a couple days. I bet it will. ;)

BTW, the problem with forcing it with those wrenches is you could destroy the threads.

Have you tried gently applying heat with a hair dryer or putting it out in the sun? The heat might cause the metal to expand enough to break loose the corrosion.

Heat usually does better for corrosion.

Also any sort of vibration will help. Banging it will help. Obviously you don't want to damage it so use a towel or a yoga mat.

Heat should be good. If you want to get creative use a massage gun. You would be surprised how it just needs to fracture and shake the crap loose out of the threads

The guy i got my F430 from spent a lot of time sorting out his (now mine) flashlight's leaking battery. Good luck my friend. It's worth the effort, they're super expensive!

On another note: would it not make sense to remove the battery permanently?
I mean we all have a flash light on our cellphone, right?

Thank you all for the advice.

Removing the battery is what I would do, and will do once I get this opened and cleaned.

I had a similar problem; the batteries leaked and expanded and were thus seized in the flashlight housing. I spent a lot of time to carefully extract the batteries, cleaned everything up and put in new batteries. Still doesn't work; I guess it's the LED?

Did you rough up the contacts with light sandpaper? Even if they looked clean, there can be an invisible layer that prevents good contact.
