I don't know about you, but I really dislike the preponderance of "Wanted" ads in the Ferraris For Sale category. I mean Jeez, if you want a particular car go shop for it. My intuition tells me that many - not all - but many of these ads are by dreamers who couldn't buy the car if they were actually presented with an opportunity.

I'm looking for a car and when I scan the descriptions and find one that's interesting, more time than not it's a "Wanted" ad.

It's getting to the point where our friendly F-Chat admin could create a separate "Wanted" category and leave the "For Sale" category to bonafide buyers.

    Just an opinion.

I do see your point for cars, but for parts that is different.

There are a LOT of time wasters on the Ferrari Cars For Sale section where I find I must sort through the trash to get to the real cars. Some folks ads give skimpy info and it seems others are there just looking for conversation like "I am thinking of selling my ... "

The Ferrari Market Letter requires a VIN, owner contact number or email and an asking price. This is how the premier and professional Ferrari sales venue is handled.

Look at the FerrariChat ads, so many questions are asked on these basic info items about a Ferrari for sale. It all comes down to transperancy in the market place. Are you here to buy and sell a real Ferrari or just jaw about one that might or might not be for sale.

FerrariChat could EASILY be the go-to place to buy and Sell Ferraris and I have PM'ed the moderators before with suggestions as increasing the draw in ads could be a very big monetization result for this site.

    Just my opinion, YMMV

I'm ok with the time wasters - if someone wants something they will buy / sell, tire kickers are fine. It's the commentary that irks me, and I mentioned that to Rob when he implemented the ads forum.

While I do like the outcome better than the original Ferrari Ads, far too many people criticize the person selling, and the threads degrade into a ***** fest, rather than focusing on the sale of the car. You have a criticism? PM the person that placed the ad, there's no business for that garbage on the forum IMHO.

I appreciate 'wanted' ads. If I have a car to sell, I'd rather see it go to someone who specifically wants it. Probably an easier sale.

    Non-issue, IMO.

Almost every post in that section has either "wanted" or "for sale" listed as a preface to the post title..not that hard IMO

I believe I posted "wanted" ads for BOTH of the Fcars I bought. I found it helpful to do so, as people would PM that had not formally listed their cars yet.

I'm about to sell a Ferrari and agree with you on the peanut gallery comments to sellers. Not sure I will list it here.

You are correct, although what is for sale and what price in the details is not clear.
Other car sales sites shows they've easily solved it by including these basic details.

Who knows, maybe having abiguous information on selling cars is intentional as it keeps more folks interacting on this site?
I know that I'm guilty of that :)

In other forums that I frequent using the same basic structure, architecture, forum program:

The FOR SALE ads have a RED header and the WANTED ads have a GREEN header. Seems like an easy feature to turn on in the basic framework of the forum. This is an easy differentiator when you are scanning the "for sale" threads.

Yeah ebay and cars.com are sooo much better. The clients that are surfing to buy a car are high earning Nigerian princes or people that "accidently" click the buy now button..

Had it happen to me 2x with trying to sell my GS400. I've been on eBay since 2001 - you have to get up pretty early to scam me, yet these clowns tried it.

I am sitting with a hefty credit because I never re-listed the car. eBay sucks beyond belief.

I found it very helpful to post a wanted ad. It has led to a car I am purchasing that I probably never would have been aware of. I hope the format doesn't change, for those who are looking, I think it's a great asset. No matter where you list you're going to get dreamers. But wouldn't you consider a forum of enthusiasts the place place to search?

Agree wanted ads are useful. Especially if you are on the fence about selling and are not doing it specifically to avoid tire kickers. In that case you, with a wanted ad, you can get in contact efficiently with someone who is serious about buying.

Having said that, those that place wanted ads so they can find people to low ball are simply a PITA.

Meh, a little presumptuous for a guy with 195 posts over 12 years.....doesn't look like all the poor little dreamers interfere much with your contributions.

I have no issue with putting out a wanted for a special color, feature, etc.

This is kind of funny, OP posted the attached on 6-4-07:

    Friends,

I'm looking to buy a 550 Maranello. Preferences follow:

    MODEL YEAR: 1999 - 2001
    MILES: < 10,000 (Will consider especially nice cars with 12 - 13k)
OPTIONS: 250 GT Shelf, Modular Wheels, Scuderia Badges, Painted Calipers (I do not need all of these, but at least 2)
RECORDS: Preferably a one owner car, but must have complete maintenance records
    COLORS: (In order of preference)
    Yellow/Black
    Grigio Titanio/Black or Tan
    TDF or Lemans / Tan
    Rosso Barchetta/Tan
    Rosso Corsa/Tan
    Black/Tan

I'm a serious buyer and I'm ready to make a purchase, so if any of you are looking to sell your 550 or know of someone who has one for sale, please PM me.

    Thanks.[/QUOTE]

Admit this is not in the "ads" section, but.....................:)
