I wonder if anyone has tried these on the road cars . I understand they are even cheaper than the sport exhaust ( titanium ) offered by Ferrari . If we are going for a powerful exhaust sound , why not trying these on the road cars , unless of course they are so deafening to the extent of being obnoxious ?!

I have the switch, so I can have quite or loud. Looks like with that set up no way to choose. Wonder what it sounds like though.

they are illegal for road use and would require the third central pipe to be deleted,
would be interesting to see what they sound like on a road going 458 though..

according to Ferrari's own description, these are made to be quieter than the stock unit, so that you can run the car on tracks with sound restrictions. Since they are valve less, it could only mean that they are louder than the OEM with valves closed, and quieter than OEM with valves open.

Since I don't gun for the ultimate lap times, when I have to drive a loud car at a sound restricted track, I just lift when going pass the sound check booth. It costs me nothing and doesn't ruin the fun when driving the car elsewhere.

My car is being serviced at the dealer . i will ask for further info on picking up . The centre pipe is not a problem . It can still be retained for visual purpose. The big question is : how good will the track silencers sound ? One thing I don't want to believe is that they will sound LESS than a stock exhaust .

As the photo shows , the muffler boxes of these track use silencers are much smaller than the stock and the sport exhaust . This must have an impact on the flow and noise of the exhaust . Smaller the box , louder the sound ?!

In general yes, the smaller the box, the less muffling effect, hence louder the sound.

But Ferrari made it perfectly clear in their descriptions that these are made to make the exhaust 12 dB quieter then the stock exhaust to comply with track noise limit.

"Ferrari therefore guarantees the following noise emissions performance, measured using FIA standards for exhaust noise emissions testing - FIA NOISE EMISSIONS LIMIT 112 dB (A)
    - NOISE EMISSIONS WITH STANDARD 458 EXHAUST AS PER FIA STANDARDS 108 dB (A)
    - NOISE EMISSIONS WITH GENTLEMAN DRIVER 458 EXHAUST AS PER FIA STANDARDS 96 dB (A)"

Sound limit for club days at Laguna Seca in 2014 is now 90db. No chance my 458 will meet this, whether with stock or this muffler system. I fear my last track day at Laguna Seca was
last November with a rare 102db day.

Not sure what the future is with Ferrari's getting louder and tracks getting quieter....

here is the thing about Laguna Seca, just go and enjoy the nice, smooth, easy track, enjoy a few good meals, the weather, the scenery, take your wife, friends, girlfriend, kids, have fun, lift going up turn 5, and forget about lap times.

Yes, if louder is your goal, this is not the box you want.

The stock exhaust with the valve constantly closed might do it, could create too much heat though.

Well future Ferraris are mostly turbo.............turbo are much quieter........problem solved! Or get a turbo Mclaren 650S :)
