Hurts to me too, even Enzo Ferrari used a GTE as a personal car, its a model with an important rule in Ferrari history, its not a Datsun!

It more than hurts; it pisses me off. Those cars are not unrestorable rust buckets...

In Classic cars magazine of October 2003, we can see a story that told the history of a 330 America, as you all know is much rarer than a GTE:" A Ferrari 330 America, believed to be used as a donor car for a Testa Rossa re-creation,has actually spent more than 30 years in a barn in Alabama.Chassis number 4973 is no strange to controversy. In 1989,a brocker tried to sell it to US basketball star Julius Erving, who also planned to turn it into a 250 Testa Rossa replica, without finding out wether it was for sale.
Apart from the fury of not being asked first, owner D. W.WAS HORRIFIED at the thought of the car´s likely to dismembering and she refused the offerof $160.000.
" I have always held onto the car, hoping to find someone who wanted to restore it.Ferraris have depreciated in value since those times but i don´t regret loosing the big money"

This women deserves a gold medal!

Have you seen the pictures of that car? I don't think I'd be so quick with the gold medal...

I hate to be the bearer of more bad news, but the America has now been through Tom S's hands.

    Regards,

    Art S.

PS. Can anyone provide more information on the pictures? Are they recent? Does anyone know the SNs of the cars?

PPS. I've seen a very similar picture to these that included a Boano/Elena shell.

I'm pretty easy-going about replicas but this thread doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth.

I'd like to buy one of those 250 GTE bodies and put it on a C6/Z06 Corvette chassis. At least the elegant body would reside on a car with some real performance instead of on a dirt pile.

Not a bad idea, but I'd like to see a new chassis with a modern V12...

See the Chicago Area "Haley and Chelle's Winter Project" thread to see how wrong THAT can go. :)

But you raise a good point. How about that body on a 456?
