This month's Ferrari E-zine showed up in my inbox this morning with an article summarizing the results of an owner survey that I apparently didn't participate in to determine the "fan favorite" Ferrari (road car) from each decade/era of production. The results they reported were:

    The Early Days: 250 Europa

    The 60s: 250 GTO

    The 70s: Dino 246 GTS ***NOTE: Runner-up was the 308 GTB/S***

    The 80s: F40

    The 90s: F50

    The 2000s: Enzo Ferrari

    The 2010s: LaFerrari

My personal take was a little different, so I'm curious what the people on this board think. To start the conversation, here's my list:

The Early Days: 166 MM Barchetta --the "little boat" that started it all--and inspired the design of the AC Ace/Cobra a decade later.

The 60s: 250 GT California Spyder (more of a 50's design, I know, but dangerously gorgeous--and an actual racer, if properly spec'd. If I could split the decade into early/late, the late winner would be the Daytona)

The 70s: 308 GTB/S -- (Because the 246 Dino only became a Ferrari after-the-fact, and I feel I am respecting the wishes of the Old Man by not retconning it as a Ferrari for the purpose of this survey--even if it fully deserves to be wear a horse.)

The 80s: F40 -- Tough call, against the 288 GTO and the iconic Testarossa, but its hard to argue with a wing like that.

The 90s: F355 GTB/S/Spyder -- the last of the little Ferraris, and one of the last true expressions of the Italian wedge car design motif kicked off by the incredible Alfa Romeo Carabo showcar of 1968.

The 2000s: 360 Modena -- I know the model debuted in 1999, but almost off of them were built and delivered in the 2000s. Either way, the 360's design language reinvented the mid-engine Ferrari into it's current post-wedge organic form.

The 2010s: Tough call, but probably the F12 Berlinetta. Every time I walk by one, I have this bizarre temptation to reach my arm through the great big open tunnel between the wings and the hood. Not sure if that's healthy.

    Anyway--that's my take. What's yours?

    My choices:

The Early Days: 375 MM Bergman chassis 0456A

    The 60s: 275 GTB/4

    The 70s: 308 GTB

    The 80s: 288 GTO.

The 90s: "International" and no more "Italian" design imho. I don't like them, none.

The 2000s: as above, "International" and no more "Italian" design imho. I don't like them, none.

    The 2010s: F12 tdf.

The 2020s: Roma (up to now).

Only my opinion, of course: I don't want to offend anyone, but that's what I think.

    Ciao

I forgot the Daytona SP3 for the 2020s: That's my choice, not the Roma (Roma is my favorite among the standard production cars)

IMO, An owners survey and a "Fan favorite" survey is a totally different thing.

In any case, if you did that survey for the general public it might look like this:

The Early Days: "When was that?"

The 60s: "OH, I know...The car in Ford Vs Ferrari"

    The 70s: "I don't know"

The 80s: "The car Magnum drove."

    The 90s: "I don't know"

    The 2000s: "I don't know"

The 2010s: "Do they still make Ferrari's?"

Regarding the 80's, I've actually gotten "Dude, is that the car that Magnum drove in Miami Vice?"
    "Uh... Yeah. Sure."

I kinda left off the specials and one-offs in my own calculation, as that brings in a whole lot of other hard choices I'm not prepared to make, even in theory.

    I love them almost all…. 288GTO, 512BB, Dino, 3x8, F40, etc etc etc

It’s easier to name the ones I don’t like much

FF and Mondial are not my cup of tea

Just FYI…when they say fan favorite, the survey was done on Instagram. My teenage daughters showed it to me. Wouldn’t put to much in the results though I like the way the thread is going. Thanks.
