Or perhaps I should call this thread, "Hit Ferrari and Run."

My buddy was out the other night and when he came out to leave, he found this. To me, it looks like someone did this deliberately, but he says there were witnesses who thought it was a drunk who backed into him then took off in panic. They haven't found the guy yet, but apparently his turn signal was found in the wheel well of the Ferrari.

I was really hoping that I would see something different when I opened this thread. How thoughtless can people be? I hope your friend finds the guilty party.

I'm always amazed by "hit and runs". I've never had one of my F-cars victimized, but I've had several of my daily drivers nailed over the years ---- never a note, never anything ---- just a fresh, mystery dinger.

It seems that a lot of idiots think if they can get away with it, there's no problem. They should be reminded that not only is "hit and run" an actual crime, but also in most states if the damage done exceeds $1000, it is a felony ---- and jail time can be part of the sentence if convicted....

I've had this happen to me before (not with a Ferrari, but lesser cars), and it hits you in the gut when you see it.

The turn signal should have a serial number so it can be traced to the owner of the car.

    are you sure?

there is a DOT number, which will identify the make and model, and year of the car. but not the driver, or the color of the car.

i have not yet seen vin 's stamped on individual small parts yet. big parts have vin, but it also depends, and only newer and upper end cars even have the vin imprinting. my 2002 Nissan truck does not for example. it has the vin on some of the large sheetmetal parts, but not on any of the lights or lenses. i added aftermarket tail lights anyway. :)

I've handled several accidents/hit and runs and have yet to see a VIN on a turn signal. Would be nice if it's something new, though.

I said serial number not a vin#. Parts such as headlights/turn signals have a part number on them which I believe goes up numerically such as #1-#2 so that is what I was referring to. Those said part #'s are fitted to an individual VIN# ie specific car so I thought it may be another option into tracking down the owner/driver. I have seen the #'s traced to a specific car on police/detective shows so that was why I mentioned it.

Good thinking and could very well be the case..

I hope they catch whoever is responsible as soon as possible... I don't understand where people come from in doing this. I have a picture of a 360 modena spider right here in reno sitting @ a barnes and noble with a shopping cart pushed into it. I would have moved the cart myself, but I feared being seen near the car holding the cart would be bad regardless of what I was doing..

I will post the pic tonight.

Yes, this has happened to me before, but wasn't that bad, paintwork damage and a ding...
Its so common to see drivers "making a scram for it " after hitting a car these days.
What peeves me is the integrity of such drivers, no sorry or whatsoever.... I just say "what goes around comes around"....And seek a voodoo magician there after.
