This has been expected for some time on this board. Guess 5% increase each year is what the market can absorb.

2.1 Million for a La Ferrari Aperta?

Give me a break. These aren't cars anymore. Ferrari has become the modern day equivalent of medieval alchemists turning lead into gold.

These have long since stopped being cars for most owners...

All one has to do is go to a "parking and posing" event (err, I mean "cars and coffee") and peruse the sale ads to see that very few ferrari owners get these cars to drive much. Look at? sure. Care for? sure. Tell others you have one? sure. Drive it, not much it seems * (me included, which is why mine is for sale).

The spec'ing of new ones every year is the most involving thing many owners do with their ferrari ownership. The level of thought put into which color to put where, which part to get CF, which option to get or not get. yada, yada, yada. Talking about who gets which limited editions, and how to get the next one and buying product you don't really want in order to get the product you do want. That's what Ferrari is all about nowadays. Not knocking it (honestly), its a great BRAND and they make good profits and owners and fanboys get whatever it is they are looking for from interacting with and owning the brand.

*yes, everyone else here is an exception :)

yup. What they do as a company has zero effect on my pleasure driving my car.

how many people would choose the car they have if no people ever knew or saw they owned it. Like running a marathon or being vegan.... if nobody could ever know...

    Me.

Hell, I chose a Mustang and that subjects me to scorn, ridicule, and lowers me in the estimation of the community.

At what cost? Dilute the brand?

I remember standing next to the line with a factory guy and he told me they were up to 12 cars a day. Then after sweeping the area to be sure no one could hear he said we would be better off only trying for 10.

The "brand" has been slapped on everything from baby shoes to home weather stations. It's already diluted. At this point, who really cars. Drive what you enjoy and forget the rest of the BS.

I average about 1500 miles per month shared among my 3 Ferraris...my friends and I drive almost every weekend and we go on week-long driving trips.
This May we are driving from south Florida to Arkansas and back...
    These machines are driving nirvana!
My 'vette is in the shop with an electrical glitch all week they can't figure out so my F12 is my daily driver...can't wait to get out in the morning.
My employees keep complimenting me on my beautiful car, they love it.
(Though very funny...yesterday one of my employees hadn't seen the car the day before but heard it when I left...and she said, "is there something wrong with your 'vette it didn't sound good yesterday?" :))

Build more cars, let more people enjoy them, make them less of a treasure and a sensational exotic drawing so much attention...and I think everyone wins.

Right there with you, literally. That trip we all took to N.C. was epic. Nothing like driving 15 hrs one way to spend a week driving on some fantastic roads. I'm at about 1,000 miles a month, I try to stay out of the damn thing but its impossible. The few times a year I have to put it on the charger makes me sick. They could dilute the brand if they want but the car/brand isn't going to be any less special to me.

    Love that analogy.

True. All brands are. However, it isn't required to sell your essence and soul to achieve that.

I entirely respect that view. Mine is the exact opposite. If Ferrari goes electric, hybrid and/or all SUV on me and, for instance, Lamborghini sticks with NA V12 (albeit at a ridiculously high price due to environment taxes), I'll edge closer to Lamborghini. Cars, like other consumer goods, aim for a specific kind of consumer, to answer their needs, goals and anxieties.

A Ferrari has to be an extention of a racing car, has to have feel and uncompromising engineering. Anything other than that and yes, it will ruin part of my ownership experience.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

Get off our site you unwashed oaf !

    :D

    Who makes that determination ?

One of the things I learned building my companies brand is its okay to alienate a certain demographic of customers if the new ones more than compensate for it.

But really, what is happening is less about Ferrari growing and more about the emergence of new economies and customers.

Look at China's growth. Using my own company as an example (which like Ferrari is a high end brand with very passionate followers), I could sell 20-25% of my entire output into China, which was a market that didnt exist 10 years ago. So if I raise my production 10% to accommodate China, I am now servicing a new market, making more money, but not increasing production to the rest of the world, so my products are still just as rare as they were.

I'm trying to figure out the value of spending $2.1 million (of course with options probably $3m) on a car that goes 220 mph on a track but can't go above 80 with its top up.

Ferrari should have made the price $10 million. They wouldn't have sold one less car.

Not me. If I had that cash, it would be a Zonda, or even a SCG003 (Glickenhuas' car).
