Posted that in the Classic (365 GT4 2+2 thru 348/512 M) section but didn't get too many answers.. I'm trying to get insurance for my '91 Testarossa that I just bought.... In Florida, my regular car insurance has to cover the car for 10 days after purchase, even if they actually don't insure Ferraris.. However, after that I'll need a insurance that will cover the car.. I tried Hagerty, but they want basically a perfect driving records but I had 2 tickets in '03 (one of them was under and the other one over 15 mph over the limit)... no tickets since and before that ever..... What are my options? Where would be the best place to get insurance? Thanks in advance for the answers
You might have thought to research this little item before you bought your Ferrari. Use the search function on the board, insurance has been brought up many times. I use State Farm.
I'm not sure what the underwriting guidelines are in Florida, but in Maryland if you have a "normal" everyday car on your auto policy, Allstate can cover your Ferrari. They just won't insure it by itself. You might want to try giving an agent a call.
I am in florida and just insured my F430. I have been with Geico for 3 yrs. They first said they don't insure Ferrari or any over 150k. Then they said that because I was a good customer, they would write a manual policy. AMAZING result in my opinion. Insured for purchase price of 240k 1k deductible and 100/300 coverage for only 1421 per 6 months.
Try Progressive.com Kind of high though they wanted $800 every 6 months for my 308. It bought me time to arrange collector car insurance. Do a google search on collector car insurance you should find somebody that will take you. stephen
The key is to find an agent or broker who is willing to go to bat for you: As mentioned before in this thread, and many other threads, the rules on paper that most agents follow are not always set in stone. An agent usually has some bargaining room with the underwriters (not on price, but on bending rules when it comes to what cars they will allow). You're better off in the long run insuring your house and cars with the same company (or at least the same agent) as well as buying a personal liability umbrella. The more lines of business you do with an agency/company, the more leniant they are on their rules. That's a fact, Jack. Good Luck! If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.
That's what I'm going to do.. Gonna try to find a insurance agent that can find a insurance for me... I don't really care how much the insurance is as long as they cover me
I will try, but I doubt that any collectors insurance will cover somebody that had tickets.. I might just get any insurance that I can get and my driving record will be clean again in May when the points for my tickets expire (last ticket was 2.5 years ago and points expire after 3 years here in FL)
I have found most of what you say to be true but car and house not true cost wise. When I went to Progressive with my cars my house went up %30 a $1000 to $1300 my 6 month car premium dropped $1000. When I put the 308 and the 944 on a collector car policy (they allowed the 944 as it was 19 years old at the time, the rule was 20) and I saved again. Both cars $480 for the year less than 5/8's of 6 months of the 308 alone. stephen
As I said Ferrari is not on list for Geico but they will write a policy. (maybe just cos I was already with them but try anyway) 800-841-3000
Quite a few Co's will try and disuade applicants they do not prefer to insure. Some states co's can pick and chose, some they have to write certain types of business, and certain states are "take all comers". Take all comers means they have to quote you and they have to take you if you accept the quote. I think sometimes inexperienced reps mistake what the rules are and tell a caller "they do not insure ________ vehicles", when in reality they will, but prefer not to. So sometime if you get a good rep and already have a policy they will write the vehicle. While someone who has no policies w/ them and is new and just wants to insure something they consider high risk / high exposure, they may imply or actually tell you they do not write that type of vehicle so they don't have to quote you if you go away and don't have to put anything in writing. If you really want insurance w/ that particular company and they refuse to quote you, ask to speak with a supervisor. Or you can check w/ the state insurance department then call back. Otherwise, best call someone else, because if they don't want you as a policy holder, it may not be to your benefit in event of a loss.
just got my ins. from classic auto ins in indy. got 25k for 550 a year. i too am in fl. phone 1800 3970765.
I have my 328 with Amica. So far a great experience... Called on the phone, told them I was purchasing a Ferrari, they had an insurance card out to me in about 2 days, and the car was added to my policy immediately, while I was on the phone with them. Cost to insure as a daily driver (not a collectors policy -- I don't think they offer that anyway) is actually less than the insurance on my cargo van (also with them). I'm in CT BTW, son't know if they do business in FL. Good luck!
Not that this is relevant in your case but here in Australia I had no problems insuring my GT4 for $50k with a premium of about $750 annually which I could pay by the month without paying extra. And to add I have a reasonly bad driving record whichare all speed related
Just a thought: I usually only buy insurance for risks I can´t afford. Accordingly I didn´t buy insurance for my Ferrari. Well my car is old and worth only something like 40k $, but even with a more expensive car I would do the same.
In California, you have to present proof of insurance to register any car. BTW, when I inquired of my ins. co. (a national Allstate-type) of cost to insure a used 355/360 last year it was under $80/mo.--which is $10-15 less than I pay for my sons Kia.
