Why didn't the owner make an appt with the service dept, take the car in, and have it inspected by a tech?

It's a rhetorical question, btw. The answer is that the owner is similar to people that drive around in Hondas and Fords ignoring the squealing brakes, bumpy tires and various weird noises. "They just didn't get around to it yet." And their complacency turns a $80 problem into a $1200 problem. Or in this case, a $272,000 problem that could have been avoided with a 2-minute application of a torque wrench.

Like Don Quixote the OP is tilting at windmills. The OP has spent 1000s of words in this thread trying to articulate imaginary wrongs.

At the end of the day it was not a “$340,000 car”. It was a “$250,000 458” or whatever the depreciated value of the car was at the time of the loss and the OP was paid that by insurance. The dealership tried to make nice, gave him a Ferrari loaner and offered additional sweeteners. The OP wasn’t having any of it and wanted $340K.

Time for the real world to move on and leave the OP to tilt at his windmills.

Good question. One that I was trying to avoid expanding on.

He bought a brand new car from a non local dealer (he bought it from a dealer 400 miles away). Local dealer also knows him and it would have caused a problem if he had brought it into that service center (not to mention that the two local dealers are 50 to 70 miles away and he'd have to pay about $600 round trip for car transport). He was waiting for the dealer where he purchased it from to instruct him what to do.

The dealer whom he bought it from (400 miles away) is bringing an enclosed truck to him to bring the car back to them.

Not to swing mclaren into this but he also has one and as a routine matter of service they have their own transport truck and all they do is pick up/drop off cars all day long for customers free of charge. I think he learned a lesson from this (he also owned a mac and got spoiled with this).

    A few points:
    1. Recognizing that you are very emotional about this complaint, I've tried to give you the latitude to formulate a clear position. I believe you have done so to the best of your ability and now are lashing out impolitely at those who disagree with you. This is not an admirable or acceptable debate tactic.
    2. Your charges that those who disagree with you are obviously working for the dealer in question are unsubstantiated and irrational.
    3. I previously warned you to moderate your tone and avoid getting nasty, but you have failed to do so. For repeating this undesirably poor behavior, I am applying a 2-day ban.
    4. If you attempt to circumvent this temporary loss of access, I will permanently ban your original account and any aliases you attempt to register.
    5. This is not a good way to begin your FerrariChat membership. Please be more amiable upon your return, or that return will be very brief.

    Regards,
    Andrew.

As I have just been saying to the OP, we must refrain from personal attacks and nastiness. That is not a requirement specific to him, but applies equally to everyone using the site. Please consider this a first warning for you.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I saw this statement twice on this thread. I thought all dealerships were not allowed to sell NEW Ferrari's over MSRP?? If that is true then offering her a new 488 at MSRP is not a loss at all for the dealership..or am I missing something?

The way it works is dealership sells new car to customer at msrp. Then customer sells/trades new car back to dealer. Dealer pays customer more than msrp for the car. Then dealer sells used car for more than msrp.

Now its technically legit, but ethically cumbersome.

So dealer does in fact lose money selling a new 488 to this particular customer because this customer wouldnt be selling it back to dealer to make additional profit on.

That's what I thought was being implied. I know how the system works but that is an unfair assumption because not every person who buys a new Ferrari from the dealer sells it back.... including myself. I bought my 458 brand new and even thought the dealership has a 1 year right of refusal I didn't sell it back.

So to assume the dealer lost money because they would sell it back to them is a bad and unfair argument IMHO because there is no way to prove the next person would sell it back to the dealer

Explain to me how a dealer loses money by selling a car for sticker.

It is my understanding that a new Ferrari requires the purchase of one if not multiple preowned Ferraris in order to get an allocation. At least that has been my personal experience.

Each of those preowned cars may be purchased at a premium over retail.
Then traded back in at normal retail or lower. Which allows you in turn to purchase said new Ferrari at MSRP

The OP , having been offered a new allocation without “playing the game”, in essence is costing the dealership money when they offer an allocation at MSRP with none of the previous transactions.

You mentioned you purchased a brand new 458, I assume you were a party to some of this in order to get to that point?

uh did you read my posts?? I am arguing that the dealer doesn't lose money by selling the car at sticker. My post #288 is in response to Aclark's statement. Reread and get back to me.

I understand that is how it works for many dealerships but to make that assumption for this situation is wrong and not a fair argument because like I said everyone who buys a new Ferrari does NOT trade it back in. Also I ordered and purchased my 1st 458 which was also my 1st Ferrari ever without purchasing any pre-owned Ferrari. I also thought that was the case by doing research including reading hours of Fchat but when I went to the dealer and spoke to the manger I was happy and surprised that was not the case. There are others on this forum who have also said this was their experience with their first Ferrari as well.

Perhaps all the hassle with dealers will be coming to an end..with increased production...just walk in and place an order..ala McLaren. Limited edition excepted.
