Whoopsy, I read on another forum that your 918 is in the shop again. Seems to be happening often, unfortunately. Couple questions:

    1. Is this because your car is one of the first ones, or are most of them that your know about frequent visitors to Porsche's mechanics?

    2. When you receive the car back, have you ever noticed (albeit slight) improvements, i.e. is Porsche tinkering with the car (ecu, etc.) in addition to fixing the issues?

This time I don't know the reason yet, Porsche is still diagnosing the problem.

Maybe being an early car is one of the causes, it doesn't benefit from running updates on parts, that also means my car is part of every single 'campaign'. (Porsche don't use the word recalls anymore :) )

None of the other cars in town get driven much, those cars actually haven't been back to the dealership for a long time, all of them missing at least one if not 2 or 3 campaigns right now.

Depending on the nature of the fixes, I mostly don't feel the difference. Especially with hardware changes, like changing bolts or control arms. But there was one software update that truly make a difference before and after.

Anyway, I don't mind the 918 in pieces right now, it is why Porsche gives out the VIP program, so I have other special cars to drive. My 911R is already passed 4000km and been on the track once.

There was no special name, just part of the regular Porsche updates last year.

Right. I guess I was asking about the nature of that particular software update (ie e-motor/ICE integration improvement, etc).

    anyway, happy driving my friend.

Take a 918 and P1 to the Track as it's laid out now after 2 years of updates to the cars I bet the P1 runs easily low-mid 6:50's and 918 runs mid-high 6:40's.

They should all run on the same day and on the same tires to see which chassis / car is faster!

IIRC, there really weren't any changes in regards to speed and time, it was mostly just smoothening out certain parts.

the track is a few seconds faster and the cars are a few seconds faster. So add it up. This doesn't diminish the Huracan btw that car is still insane.

This shuts all the P1 stock car claims around ring to bed, for once and all.

P1 LM has more power, lighter, more downforce etc.

Plus when 918 did the time ring was slower...

Riiiiight. How many cars in the 'production' run? And....which car was it 'based' on? Stupid track specials skirting road legality, with stupid road worthiness, claiming to be road cars... doing stupid PR such as setting a 'new record'...

Ah, the good 'ol days when all the Mac cultists screamed at the top of their lungs that the standard ROAD CAR P1 really did lap the 'Ring in the 6:40's. There was even an owner who claimed to have PROOF! Because Mac gave him a silly little usb drive with top secret stuff on it. What a laugh then, and even bigger joke now.

if the Performante's pirelli press release are anything to go by, then customers are also able to buy them. Plus the guys over at LP also said the same thing. Plus, everyone has custom made tires for their car, like the "new corsas" on the 720s. and the 918 as well: The tires fitted were the 918’s standard-issue Michelins, which were developed specifically for the car.

From doctaM3: There is an article (I also think it got posted in the thread) that these were Performante optimized Trofeo R tires. They will be available when you spec your car so not some vapor ware, hard to get tires.

The actual customer Spec Performanates will soon be out.

No doubt that when the times tests come out, I expect that we will see the same discrepancy time wise. Like on the customer spec SVs, when run along side the 918.

I'm inclined to agree with you but the Huracan P is so good looking and such a performance bargain it's almost unreal. I'd probably take one over a 918 at half the price much less 1/5 the price.

Exactomundo! They were 'special brew' cars. Simply showing what the platform could do if pushed to the nth degree, but not particularly 'stock' take home edition.
