Would have been helpful, if they had put the above in the ring time press release...Porsche have a "special brew car" the 991 GT3 R.......Maybe they should have sent this round when testing the 991.2 GT3...LOL

Well, technically the lambo's were still street legal road cars, just hugely optimized in ways that don't make it into the showroom floors. You get what I'm getting at :)

it's funny how now one had a problem with the Mclaren f1 lm when that brought in all the records many years ago.

Much more simple time. There wasnt this obsession over lap times for road cars. I miss the 90's.

Don't think customers will really care. I'll take mine on track but I'll never be able to push it to 6:52 levels....regardless can't wait til August!

+100. If the car feels fast And puts a smile on your face, does it matter? Could your ass tell the difference between a 7:02 and 6:52 at the n ring? I highly doubt it.

I take your point, and agree with you. A lot that I know to actually think that they have brought into a car that is faster than a 918, based on the ring time.

Actually, the hype from the 'Ring record is a big factor in swelling interest. People will be buying it (fig and literally) based on the idea that it is faster than 918, etc. Not saying that it's not a serious piece of kit and a relative bargain. But there's no denying the effectiveness of great PR recently.

Totally agree, it's actually quite brilliant marketing. "Bragging rights" saying it's the King of the Ring, even with the controversy of its truth behind its specs. It worked for me - I'm a track junkie. But I'll never be able to extract all of its power.
Likewise most owners of 918's, P1's and LaF's won't extract more then a fraction of its power.
But the fact that the Performante is just over $300k being less than 1/3 the retail price of the others is pretty good bang for the buck with its performance.

Owners love believing their car is the best. In the Huracan case it may or may not be justified, we shall see. I remember a video of Bruce Canepa (who I respect) saying he knows the P1 can do 0-60 less than 2.5 seconds and is quicker to 60 than a 918 and has more torque (he actually said this) than a 918. I have no doubt a P1 feels significantly quicker than a 918 from a roll and probably is slightly quicker. But not from dig. That's for certain.

This video was made before he owned his 918 so maybe he'd sing a different tune now. Point is people will believe things to fit what ever narrative they want to be true. If a guy buys the Huracan P simply because of its Ring time he will NEVER be convinced it's not real.

So, as this thread began before the 3 cars that formed their generation of mega car were even a real thing, and has now lasted until a relatively inexpensive lambo outran them all... Has an official declaration of "greatest thread in car forum history" been made? Such a title seems fitting, although I'd wonder who was responsible for designating it...

And tires, anyway, its always been tires. For the last decade or however long, now, the obsession with lap times has been the mainstream thing. Its always tires. The R35 hit the streets and it was godly faster than a C6, the C6 got semi-slicks and suddenly it was faster than the R35. And on into infinity, its always been tires.

May this thread still be going when my next kid, on the way, first gets to vote.

I 'd wait for independent tests in real tracks before making such claims...

It seems the NIO did a whole lap while the P1 LM did a shorter distance at the Ring or it wouldn't have the record?

    What about the Lambo?

Funny, they mentioned the ride being harsh. Every other review I read said it's compliant. So many of these things are so personal to the reviewer. Useless information. It's like a reviewer complaining about the shifting paddles being column mounted or vice versa.

Okay. Now I hear a P1 LM did 6:43 at the ring. So 6:47 for the P1 was a fake time posted. Anyway it is good to see the cars getting so much faster.

Looks great, especially with Sarina Williams standing next to it. I liked the comment about saving weight by only having a 3" center console monitor. Oh how far we've come!
