Acer Ferrari 3200 Notebook PC. Quote from PC World: If a notebook computer painted with the same high-gloss, red finish favored by the Italian race-car maker sounds like a reasonable substitute, then take the Acer Ferrari 3200 for a test drive. This machine is the second model in Acer's Ferrari lineup, launched last year after Acer became the official supplier of IT products to the Scuderia Ferrari Formula One team.

I am fortunate to have the Acer Ferrari 3200 laptop, and let me tell you, it's a great product. The looks are great. The outside is painted in authentic Ferrari red in a three-step process. The inside is done in a brushed-aluminum finish, with a strip of faux-carbon fibre. Even the Scuderia emblems are nicely done...not cheap stickers. It also comes with a Ferrari mouse to match.

The components are impressive, too. It features a 1.6Ghz 64-bit AMD process, 512 megs of RAM, a 60-GB hard drive (or is it 80? I forget). The optical drive can read and write all formats of CDs and DVDs (DVD+/-R/RW), and it loads like a car stereo with a slot instead of a chintzy tray like on most computers. It has integrated LAN, modem, 802.11a/b/g wireless, bluetooth, and a media card reader that takes SmartMedia, SecureDigital, MMC and Sony Memory Stick. It runs like a dream.

It would all be overkill if it weren't competitively priced. I'm not saying it's cheap, but for what you're getting, it's a good deal. Unlike with the Olympus Ferrari camera, you certainly don't pay a premium for the Cavalinno branding.

I have one of the ferrari laptops. It does rock. However, I did upgrade the hard drive to a faster one, (7200 rpm) and put in one gig of ram.

Now I'm looking to paint my trackball to match the Ferrari Red. Does anyone know the color code for the red from the laptop? I can order paint, but I need to know the color code!

I need a small can, enough to do two coats on my trackball. Either that or I can send my trackball to a shop that's painting something red. I really would like to add the trackball on to a door/hood that's getting painted rather than have them mix up a batch of red for the trackball only.

    Any suggestions?

Uhhh...painting a trackball might not be such a good idea there buddy. The surface of the ball is important to the opperation of the ball's connection to the sensors. If you paint it, it may not work as well, if at all. Also, there are small tolerences for these parts and adding even a fraction more to the diameter of the ball could cause it to not even fit.

But...then again, it's not my computer and I could be wrong.

I'm actually painting the housing, not the ball itself. It's also an Optical trackball. I don't think one coat of primer, two coats of paint and a coat of laquer are going to thicken the ball cradle too much. If so, I'll sand it out and let it be black.

I'm painting the the black casing and buttons red and leaving the silver to match the inside of the laptop. (I have to leave the scroll wheel around the ball black) I don't think it will be much of a problem. It's just four screws to take it apart, and then its paint. If I can find the right color!
