    Hi all,

I originally posted this in the F430 section, but it may be better here....

I recently got a 2008 F430 Spider (which I love!), but the (USA) maps are outdated -- for example, it doesn't know about most of the roads around my house. There has also been a bunch of construction here in Northern VA and so now many of the directions are just wrong -- I am not blessed with a good sense of direction, and so this is causing me issues (like driving round in circles for hours :))

    So, does anyone know:
1: What the latest version of the maps are[0]?
    2: When these were released?
3: If / when newer maps might come out? -- I don't want to buy new maps now if they'll be releasing even newer ones soon.

I have already tried looking on FC, calling NavTeq, trying the dealer (no luck!), looking online, etc with no luck.

Any assistance / information *greatly* appreciated...

    W

[0]: I think you can tell this by doing the following (it's unclear which info is the Version):
1:Hold Nav and press on the radio.
    2: Scroll down -- I have:
    #28 "F USA_Amy+w_V2100 USA D Int 2.1..."
    #25 "GPS-SW418"
    My System CD is V3.0.

I have tried calling a number of dealers (some of whom said that Ferrari never released any newer maps, some of whom said they did, but were unable to a: order them or b: knew when and many of whom promised to check and then call back, but never did) to try get an answer...

I'm thinking I may have to just rip out the stock Becker and replace it with one of those pop up display things :-(

Anyone know / have newer maps? Please?

Sounds like you are making a strong case to avoid navigation built into a car.

All of the $200 (and up) devices can easily download the most current maps.

    Yup.

I've got a standalone Garmin, but there is no elegant mounting system that I have been able to come up with, and the sound from the unit is too quiet to be heard over the Ferrari growl...

If I'm unable to find newer maps I'll:
A: mount the Garmin and either feed it to a separate (amplified) speaker or into the aux input on the (stock) Becker unit (which means I cannot easily use the iPod input anymore) or
B: replace the head with something like a Pioneer with a pop up screen (which will be ugly, but it seems really hard to find a single DIN unit with navigation).

Neither of these is a good option...

Kinda grumpy if Ferrari / Becker really haven't released newer (US) maps...

After much research (and calling many Ferrari dealers) it seems that there is a disk available with updated maps, but it costs $1,800...

The parts guy I spoke to figured that there was no way it could possibly be that expensive, and so did a bunch more research... Seems that it really is that much.

To me this seems too much like highway robbery (!) and so I'm going to:
a: replace the whole unit or:
    b: just add a Garmin.

    Sad panda...

That sucks. How much do you drive the car to where you don't know where you are going? Isn't that what a DD is for or is the 430 it?

F430 is the daily driver :)

My wife has a Range Rover for when we need to buy anything larger than a breadbox (or for when it is snowing, etc). Didn't see a point in having anything other than the 430...
