Marcel, I used to have a lot of respect for you. The person who I think owns this car has an Alfa 8C and drives the heck out of it, and I believe he also owned the white DuBonnet Paris show car, so I would hardly negate his taste in cars. The reason is used reps as the race cars was so he wouldn't bash up a peice of history. I think you need to chill out a little.

I let you have your opinion, of course. I know that hearing the truth is sometimes a bit hard or brutal. Many people don't want to be confronted with it.
But that car remains a replica for sure. It is always the same discussion. May I recommend and suggest that you go to the Vintage car section and see the special thread about "replica or real barchetta". This will answer many questions about the replica we talk about here. In that other thread I have just posted a few photos showing the REAL car (250 MM Spider Vignale #0274 MM owned by Jess Pourret), the one which the replica tries to resemble. Start with counting the numbers of the portholes, please.
And, btw, even if somebody owns a real Alfa 8C and the Dubonnet Ferrari it doesn't automatically mean that ALL his cars are genuine. He may still own replicas.

NO need to chill out. This is just the kind of a replica I hate the most: it ruins the original design and makes average show goers think this is the way Vignale built cars. Besides, a rear Ferrari was given a neck shot when it was built. Best wishes, Kare

    Marcel,
I believe this car was commissioned so that the owner could drive it fairly often, without worrying about it. The day those pics were shot it was sitting out in a light rain without even a cover for the interior. You can get all wound up if you want, but I wouldn't.

I'd still like to know what's underneath the hood? Ferrari engine? Ferrari chassis? Anybody? Buehler, Buehler?

Let's not forget that show goers usually/often pay entrance fees. Would YOU want to pay entrance fees to see Ferrari fakes and replicas?

And what do you explain your son? Imagine how disappointed he will be one day when he has grown up, looks at old photos and finds out that his dad used to go with him to a car show where he saw his first "Ferrari".

    Marcel,
This was a Ferrari Memorabilia show, not a car show. There was no admission fee, the car in question was his transportation to the show. If I had felt up to going, I was going to take my Rickman Enfield (British bike).

The show that I mentioned in an earlier post, was free to the public, and the car was presented as a rebody/replica.

    Regards,
    Bill

Actually I would and in a way I have: I paid some good money to see Lord Nelson's ship in Portsmouth. As I was talking to some of the museum folks it turns out that what I was looking at (or standing on) was mostly a replica. Of the original ship at the most 20% have survived. The Barchetta in question here (pun intended) has probably more than that of original parts. Somehow I can imagine that in a hundred years time people will be willing to pay admission to see any kind of antique car, whether that's an original or a replica.

Same argument can be made about several art museums around the world (particularly when you talk about their 3D art objects).

Millions of folks flock each year to Epcot center and Paris/Venice in Las Vegas.

Simply because such people prefer to spend money in a casino rather than going to Paris (France) and Venice (Italy) and learn about history. Oh, and btw, there's also a Paris in Texas. But I couldn't find their Eiffel tower and was sooooo disappointed.........

    Here a consolation from Chicago:
Not La Tour Eiffel, but another famous one. While we're on the subject of replicas.

Yeah."Sue" the Dinosaur at the Field Museum is mostly made up of "fake" parts. But, people don't mind paying to see it.

BTW....This is the REAL Oscar Meyer Wienermobile that my son and I are standing next to. One of a few Real ones, for that matter. Not a fake one....:)

A bit OT, but what the heck: You sure about Sue? There are several copies (replicas, yikes!) of her around the world, but I thought the one we had had the most original parts. I think she is s/n 000001. :)

Marcel, ROTFLMAO is actually Internet slang for "rolling on the floor laughing my xxx off". Chicago slang has more to do with concrete shoes.

But they don't have the bigger motor on them... and Frank, as you must surely realize we need the extra cubic inches to haul our "lunch buckets" around :D

    The car is a rebody.

I saw it when it was near completion a couple of years ago; no expense was spared!

Yeah, I just saw 500cc Models.

BTW, do they still have that Motorcycle parts Swap Meet down there in Peotone? We used to go to that alot years ago. But I haven't in a long, long time. Man, you could find just about anything and everything down there!

    Hi Frank,
All they make any more, is 350 and 500's. They are only made in India now. Bikes like mine, were assembled with some of the last RE motors built in England.

They sill have them, but they are HD stuff for the most part. I go sometimes, just for S&G's but usually can't find anything of any importance. Last year I picked up a couple of twin output coils, just to have around.
