So we just got back from a 10 day Italian adventure - and our last full day was dedicated to Ferrari. we did the factory tour, eat lunch at Cavallino and did the museums etc... all of which was fantastic! and I'll post pictures soon.

I had been to Maranello once briefly before on a lazy Sunday in late October 1989, so nothing was open. I remember the store - Shopping Formula One... so wanted to finally go in side... OMG - its a modelers paradise. its way, way better than any of the factory stores as it has thousands of scale models from 1/8 to 1/43 and all the important marques besides Ferrari. lets talk about books - like a dozen My terrible joys - some autographed, Piloti Che Gente - about 11 that i counted, all in a variety of languages - mostly italian - all the Gorgio Nada books about Ferrari, it is a spectacular store. they also have signed helments from all the big drivers - sigend etc... and the full top body work from Clay Reggazoni's 1974 Ferrari F-1 car there... it was like being a kid in a candy shop!!! if you ever get there you simply have to go.
I picked up a couple of books - one on Villeneuve and one of Hans Tanners Ubiquitious books on Ferrari.... My wife had to literally pull me out of there!

There are some general showroom pictures on their site at Shopping Formula 1 Maranello

I love it when places like this stick around and become institutions. They started in 1979 but I don't think I learned of them (or Hors Ligne) until maybe 1984 or even 1986. There were some great model shops in Italy at that time - Autominia and Zeppelin in Milano and Paolo Tron's shop in Luano particularly. Also a great shop in Lugano in the Italian part of Switzerland.
If you get back there try Modellismo Baracca in Monza.

What a great trip, Tom. We were there last in 2009 and through a fortunate set of
circumstances were able to get an insider's tour of Ferrari Classiche. Sorry I missed shopping Formula One. Next time!
