I like to keep mine as stock as possible too…my problem always seems to come with how to interpret the “as possible" part :)

Interesting. I can tell you that modifying a 308 to 500+ hp and 400+ ft-lb torque didn’t seem to in any way decrease the Ferrari experience. In fact, it made it way better…at least to me.

LOL what a retarded statement. Enzo was all about performance nad getting max hp.

The people who run Ferrari today are all about profits, which is fine for business but some purity is missing from the days of Enzo

I come from the Corvette world (C2) where originality is a must. I have always been a purist. Modifications are a very personal thing. You make the car exaclty how YOU would like it. There is nothing wrong with modifications, but at resale time, expect to get less because the next owner will need to add dollars to return the car to original or modify it to suit their taste.

    Steven,

Was that your 308 in the first video? If so, it looked and sounded MAGNIFICENT going around that track!

Both videos are the 308, the larger one was later in the day (September 1, 2005) after a few minor adjustments and the tires were really hooking up as the track warmed up as well. Glad you like it. Frankly, it could be better, so we are doing further mods with uprating to 400lbs/350lbs springs (from the 300/250), thicker sways, etc.

i was watching a few other videos i have here this evening and i could post my driving on the same track in cold (50F) and wet. The lap time is 10 seconds slower and the car's traction never really hooked up the entire day :(

In fact, the day before the rain video with nearly the same weather conditions the car missed a beat while hard braking before the tire wall to the right/uphill turn and needed to make a choice. Go sideways into the tire wall or go straight in. In the end the car was about side view mirror deep into the tire wall :( No real harm to the car or my ego, just another learning experience.

Great day at the track = when you can drive the car home in one piece :)

this 1970 512M is the best justification FOR modifying your Ferrari

The 512M was getting destroyed by Porsche's all conquering 917

Roger Penske bought this 512M from ferrari for $25k then dropped another $250k into it modifying the HLL out of it and was finally able to run w the Porsche 917s

Now of course this very same 512M runs at Cavallino where supposedly only "original" cars are supposed to run. Give me a friggin break

Then of course there is the 250 breadvan which was rebodied by Drogo (?) & is now embraced as an "important" car despite being extremely modified

Quod licet Iovi non licet bovi.

It's the double standard in mods: If done by somebody like Drogo it is all cool, but God help you if you try to mod the car yourself.

As somebody pointed out the Sultan of Brunei's collection has some of the wildest mods, yet they're considered one-off collector pieces.

That was me that said that if I recall correctly.

I'm not saying getting max HP out of your Ferrari takes away from the traditional Ferrari experience but trying to build a 360 with 500hp and 500 lb ft of torque would require serious modifications to where the engine wouldn't be anywhere near what a Ferrari should be. Good point you bring up the Enzo. If I recall correctly the Enzo has 650hp and somewhere around 450-480 lb/ft of torque from the factory. This is exactly my example of the traditional Ferrari that has a higher revving motor with less torque unlike a Viper or a Corvette. If you think a Ferrari with a redline at 6,000rpm making 500 lb/ft of torque and 500bhp doesn't take away from the traditional feel of a Ferrari then I'm not the one making retarded statements. I'd much rather have the 500hp car with 350-360 lb/ft of torque revving to 8,000-8,500rpm's. Also please keep in mind that we were talking about the V8 Ferrari's. I sell the parts that increase performance, if I was to say that takes away from the Ferrari Experience it would be hurting my sales. I was speaking of matching the torque with the hp and lowering the rev range would take away from the experience.

I could get further into this but I'm just going to leave it at that. If anyone wants to disagree with me that's fine.

I would be a purist if the car I was thinking of modding had < 20,000 miles on it. Once the car has been used, it doesn't matter IMHO... Just my $.02...

I see what your saying. I guess almost by definition you can't build a 360 with 500/500...unless you de-cam it maybe. It's that whole hp=torque x rpm/5252. Adding boost will easily push the torque to 500 ft-lbs, but it if the touque peak is at 6000 (I'm guessing here) and dropps to say 400 at 8000, the hp would 610. A fun car, but I guess not strictly 500/500...more 500/500++ :)

Amen, and it is truly sad. Wonder if they will badge the new 'Dino' a Ferrari or just a Dino. Have been reading more about it and i have a feeling it is basically going to be a next generation Maserati, just with a ???? badge. Am sure the bean counters KNOW if they put the Ferrari label it will do well, but any other label and it will probably flounder.

    I agree 100%

When I first bought mine I had all these ideas about changing color, performance mods, etc. The guy that found my car and worked the deal for me (an ex-long time salesman at FAF) told me that doing that doesn't sit well with some people. For about 3 years I took his advice not to.

Then one day I woke up. I finally realized it's MY car. If I want to paint it purple and swap engines with a Pinto, that's my business. Anybody that doesn't like it, well, I just hope that they learn to deal with it. I would think the guy with the bigger problem is the guy - someone I may or may not even know - who actually lets what I do to my car bother him more than a couple of seconds. Move on. Don't these folks have something better to worry about anyway? Go bother someone else.

Anybody reading this that has ever had someone give them **** about what they do with their Ferrari, tell them as soon as they start paying to own, insure, and maintain it, they should just save their breath.

I think you have a larger market with an original car versus a heavily modified one, but as several have noted; it is YOUR car.
