Not sure how to do that - I don't think you can set it up to allow multiple votes for the same option on a poll. CS is going to be less common than the 360. If we're looking for the most popular Ferrari model, it's not going to be one of the scarcer variants. Trust me, I love F40s even more than my car, but there's no way we're going to have more F40 owners here than 308 or 328 owners.
++; it was just meant for fun, anyway - wasn't it? Not like we are discovering the secrets of dark matter or the fabric of the universe or such... What surprised me the most was that 355 and 348 are so well represented; pulling about the same numbers or a little more than 308,328. I knew Testarossa was not going to do all that much, but after all if everybody on just that 85/86 early list had voted it would be in the lead right now!
For that matter, it won't be a : 308 GT4 Mondial Dino 246 612 599 575 550 456 512TR 512 BBI Daytona G
Thank you, and I know it's easy to criticize, but... surely lumping all the pre-Daytona stuff together and fitting it under "something old with four seats" is a bit excessive, don't you think? Especially while distinguishing between the 550 and the 575... Cheers, Julio
That's right. I owned an old one with four seats, now have a 308. Both past and present ownerships should count.
For this poll, not excessive. The vintage cars don't have the build quantities to outnumber the modern cars. I'm not saying a 250 GT is less worthy than a 360, for example, just that there won't be as many owners. One data bias we may see here is that the 348 and 355 are edging out the commoner 360. Maybe a lot of the newer cars are owned by guys who don't frequent discussion boards like this one, while the older cars are more likely to be in enthusiasts' hands. (?)
348/355 I had no doubt in my mind there is no other Ferrari owners with as much passion and delight for these fine autos except maybe Enzo owners
The difference is simple: The OP did this poll to find the most common owned F car only and the rest of us are liking the poll to see the count of ALL F cars. To most of us, seeing the 1 F50 is as interesting as seeing that there are 120 348 owners. So redo the poll for everyone's enjoyment or leave it as is and we will all remember that there were more 348's than anything else and not remember anything else.
The real problem with this thread is its location. This thread over in the Boxers/TR section found over 60 Boxer owners on this forum... however most of them are not the guys that would typically come into the 'general' section, or even post too much if they don't have anything significant to add. That is reflected by the fact that in the '512BBi' option on this poll (which evidently is supposed to encompass the 365BB and BB512 also), there are only five votes. This thread is interesting for entertainment purposes, but nothing else, and it's hardly representative of the actual ownership numbers. If you want to get a real idea of the proportional ownership numbers, just check the number of posts in each of the respective forums using the categories Rob laid out. With the exception of the supercars, which are discussed more just because everyone loves to talk about them, I'd bet the totals are quite representative of the ownership numbers. Unfortunately, those categories aren't perfect either.
Unless you group together the 308's and 328's, which are esentially the same cars. The 'ruling' then changes quickly.
So then you would also want to group the 348 and the 355? The 348/355 would be the top model. Okay then! BT
Looks like the 348 is in the lead. I wouldn't group the 348 and 355 -- major engine differences, as well as trim. Ditto the 308 and 328 -- the styling looks similar, but the parts lists don't have as much overlap as you'd think.
If Alan would list his, and if one of the moderators could alter the count to include my second car, and Alans 3 cars (or is it four now?) the 308 GTB/S would be solidly in the lead. Of course its equally possible the other models could be skewed simularly. But I see the 308 is missing some regular owners as well as a few who really dont post very often. The results of this can in no possible way be considered realistic. Besides, most popular does not necessarily mean physical ownership. Many of us love the Lusso or GTO, F-40 etc., while not actually owning an example. But, it could also indicate that there are either not as many actual owners on Fchat, or that there are not as many of each model left in existence as some would like to believe. I suspect its a bit of both. I dont know about the other models, but I honestly do not believe even 25% of the early 308s are still in existence. That in and of itself would lower the potential outcome considerably. It is fun though.
This is a decent approximation of ownership. The argument that they produced more 360s than 355s is valid, however, the 355s have been wrecked in a fairly substantial rate. Additionally, this chat area is mostly the USA. I know that other countries have people here, but the majority of people on the site are from the USA, not Europe, not Asia, not Australia, even though all of those areas are indeed represented. We could make the poll more accurate, but why bother, it gave a decent approximation of those that come on this board regularly. I like the idea that most of the people on the board own 348s, a TS was my first Ferrari. Art
