I just got a fax from Sam Emerick that the Texas / Southwest Region of the Ferrari Owner's Club has dissolved. I didn't think the area could support both clubs FCA/ FOC, but the one fun run I did with them was fun. Sam put out a lot of effort, but the pool of members was just too small. I hope those that weren't dual members will join our active local FCA.

Sam is a really nice guy and attended a few FCA events a few years back. I know a few FOC members. One concern that came out from FOC DFW was that FCA DFW was too cliquey. I think that is a fair concern and something we should all be careful of. The fact is many of us have now known each other for several years and attended dozens of events together. You tend to get close and more comfortable with each other. That is what a club is all about, but be conscious of welcoming new and infrequent members at our events. I think we do a good job of this, but something just to look out for.

I remembering hearing a while back that either the factory or FNA was going to shut down the use of the name Ferrari by any group other than FCA. Do you know what came of that?

Sad they shut down, you would think the market's big enough here to support multiple clubs and give everyone what they want.

If someone tries to get it going again, they really need to get the contact information fixed at the national Ferrari Owners' Club site. That site still lists Dave Scott as a contact, and points to a non-existant regional page.

Ok, David and Mark, how do you all suggest we fix that perception?

Almost every event is public and has open invitations, and yet the people who attend are pretty much the same every time. How can we get to know people who don't show up?

EDIT: Just FWIW, the local FCA leadership tried to coordinate with the local FOC on scheduling and such. I've been in contact with Sam and he seems like a decent guy over email. If there are any ex-DFW FOC members out there who have felt marginalized at FCA events, please contact me and we'll talk.

The issue goes well beyond making events known. I will not even pretend to know about the relationship of FOC and FCA chapters. The issue is more related to perception when people actually show up.

I do not really have time at the moment to get into a huge descriptive psycho-analysis type of reply. However, I will say that my observations are that DFW FCA members have their group of owners that they know and trust, and seem content with that group.

I may not know what I'm talking about, but here is my .02 cents on this issue. I know that this may be a long shot, but if you can work out a deal with the local Ferrari dealer. They can inform Ferrari owners who walk into their showrooms, parts counter, or bring their car in for service, about your local Ferrari club & somehow persuade them to join & be active.

The way I see it is, even though many of you guys lead busy lives, these other people probably won't go out of their way to make even more time in their lives to be active in an automobile club. They simply just aren't interested.

I found out about FChat at Boardwalk Ferrari. I met and talked to Chet there and went to my first activity (Poker Run) because of the advise they gave me. I could not have felt more welcome at the Poker Run. A couple of Fchatters gave us rides in their cars and everyone was very welcoming. It was very intimidating as I didn't know anyone's name, but the guys made it very easy. That day I decided this was a group of folks whom I wanted to hang around with. Crazy about cars, just like me. :)

I went to the first official meeting the FOC had and it was a pretty good turn out. It seemed to be a pretty good mix of people. Karl, who used to be GM of Boardwalk, was there as were about 8 cars. However, it was a small group of people that made up the membership and I do not think they supported the effort very well. As a matter of fact I had heard that it had gotten kind of "cliquey" which I thought was a bit odd as that was the original complaint about the FCA-DFW chapter.
