I'm thinking of driving my 328 from it's current home in MD to a new home in San Antonio (we have a house there). So I'd be interested in any input from folks who have their 3x8s in that area of TX as far as "quality of life." Basically what I'm wondering about is frankly whether it would be more fun to have the car in TX or to keep it in MD.

In the Kent Island, MD area, where the car is currently located, although I like the area just fine for boating, it's not much of a place for "spirited" driving. There's always a lot of traffic and the opportunity to have any fun driving is pretty much limited to doing an on/off ramp as fast as possible. Speed limits in the area are 55-60 and are pretty heavily enforced. Pretty much the only fun thing to do is go to local car meets and that got boring to me after the third one several years ago.

Just wondering if the south CenTex area might be better overall. Any thought pro or con would be helpful!

Lots of great rural roads. We are in the process of moving to Austin and I can't wait.

You'll feel right at home in a city over run by Californians in the last 25 years.

Austin and SA are "big cities", but you don't have to go all that far to find the country roads as Brian says. Great food...in both places. Born and raised in Texas. After being gone for 14 years, the food is what I miss the most...well...maybe family...no, definitely the food. My family is nucking futs.

Take the Fezza to Texas! All major cities of Texas have great driving roads nearby (can't speak for Houston, though; ain't driven there enough, but someone here can pipe up for H-town) once you get a smidgen out of built up areas. Stop in at a small town diner for pie or CFS, hit up a bbq joint, chat up the locals - in 12 years, wife & I have never had a bad time out on the backroads of Texas (well, except for one speeding ticket!)..T

Lots of fun roads out here in the hill country. Can even drive them in the dead of the winter. :D

Google or YouTube search the Texas Twisted Sisters. I'm heading there Nov 8 in my Toyota MR2.

Lots of great roads just West of Austin & San Antonio. Three sisters, Utopia, Medina, all great spots out there. Having the F car down here will be great. You just don't drive the two or three weeks of winter. No big deal. Winter tires? Not a thing here. Barely a need for all season.

Hwy 90, running west out of San Antonio, is full of small town speed traps. I'm not very fond of DPS in Texas. 77 in a 70 was a $112 ticket in 1998. Still remember the officer's name. Total tool.

    Be warned!

Although I spend a fair bit of time in SA, local driving and fairly frequent runs up 281 to Marble Falls to visit a friend is about the extent of my non-interstate experience in that part of TX. The Hill country looked pretty neat to me and it's one of the reasons I was thinking about moving the car. Looks like a good idea; probably would happen next spring. I might be able do it in December but other commitments for the holiday season make it rather difficult.

I searched the "Twisted Sisters," thanks for that suggestion. SA looks like great location for our motorcycles as well though I guess we'd have to buy two more ( oh NO! :) )since we really enjoy riding them in their current location - San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

I've been eyeballing the new Honda VFR; my wife would probably buy another BMW.
Our His/Her bikes in Mexico are: 1973 Norton Commando/2012 BMW F650GS (which is an 800cc vertical twin. I have never quite out why BMW called an 800 a 650 but I guess it was because they also had an F800GS the same year which was the same engine in a higher state of tune).

Circuit of the Americas (US F1 GP) is a nice drive from SanTone... SH130 is a toll road, but the posted speed limit is 85 MPH and most people treat that as the minimum speed.

Ferrari Club of Austin had a nice drive yesterday through the hill country that is northwest of SanTone, no complaints were heard. And the San Antonio Ferrari Club is very active.

I may be biased, but suggest that your toy will love it here...

    Hey Mike

I live in San Antonio. Although I am patiently searching for my right 599 GTB to someday soon call my own, I am close friends with several members of the SA Ferrari club including the President, and close friends with the GM and Brand Manager at Ferrari of San Antonio dealership. Shoot me a private message with your contact information and I will pass it on.

    V/r
    Scott
