As most fellow users on this site I believe we own our Ferrari's for our passion of the brand and the workmanship behind such beautiful machines. Yet, there are those who purchase as way to look down upon others. Of course any material object can be used for the wrong reasons.

One of my favorite joys of ownership comes from others enjoying my car, yet I question myself if I should congratulate myself on succeeding my goal of owning a Ferrari or if I should feel guilty for having something other can't have.

Not every one can have everything, not to get political but you either subscribe to the view that some either work hard or inherit the abillity to have nice things or the flip side where everyone is given the same, problem is we can't all have a Ferrari so we would all end up with a moped and a tent, I know that if I was given a moped and a tent and my income was fixed to the (not very high) level of everybody else I would have stayed in bed this morning and not bothered with work.
You earned it so enjoy it.

He was having a hard time finding a 328 last month. Actually, 2 weeks ago!

    Must have scored.

    Odd he didn't announce it?

Certainly nice he is getting enjoyment out of it in that short period.

Why on earth would you feel guilty for having a Ferrari? Unless you stole it, you should be proud of your accomplishment of realizing a dream.

As was previously stated.... Not everyone can have everything. Not everyone is willing to do the work in order to have certain things.

Enjoy it! Share it! And save your guilt for having too much chocolate! :)

In my world most people look down on me for having a Ferrari. The local girls (that are attractive to me) could care less and if they do care, they don't like it.

The hard part for me is to find like minded peers that can enjoy the experience with me.

I just end up having to be faithful to my passion as in your first sentence.

If you worked hard for it, congratulate yourself, and always understand that it is how you handle yourself that other people will see, not just the fact that you own a nice car. Most people that see mine don't care, especially women.

No reason to feel guilty because many other people out there were not able to have one for one reason or another. If you bought it to show off, that's one thing, but most of us bought ours because we have for many years appreciated the peak of performance and styling that Ferrari represents. I wanted one since I was a little kid, long before I understood what a status symbol meant. It was that red car that sounded great, had an incredible shape, and the same company had that team that won races :)

Anyone currently driving a new Mercedes SL, BMW M6, Audi S8, Porsche 911, etc., can easily afford a post-Daytona era Ferrari other than a new one on the showroom floor.

Aside from the vintage stuff, which is serious money by any measure, don't overestimate the exclusivity of the badge, and try not to put yourself on a pedestal.

If you want to congratulate yourself, IMHO it's more that you have shown more imagination than most car buyers, who could have picked up a 328/360 but instead bought another new German car. That is more interesting than the "I have something that you can't" angle, which is unappealing.

Apparently Zerocool has been banned. Too bad, we'll probably never find out which car he bought.

How does that happen in just 3 posts? (especially when those posts are nothing confrontational)
Maybe the IP address matched a former banned user?

I don't feel guilty about ownership at all. I worked my ass off for years and in school sacrificing like most will not. I bought the car bc it's what I like, not to show off.

I downplay ownership to others and keep quiet to colleagues about the car. I was forced to drive the 430 to a meeting last week and parked as far away from everyone as possible and drove out the back way so no one would see me.

Banned for just a few posts, in which I'm sure nothing too controversial was said? In any case, I've thought a little bit about the same subject-how to avoid looking like a ******-bag driving one of those around when I do NOT look like Tom Selleck, and am not/do not want to appear as some kind of arrogant disaffected rich guy. I haven't bought one yet, but if I do it will so far be because of their uniqueness, their 'Italian-ness', and to the greatest extent, because the ones I'm looking at (older 308s) are full of stuff that I could have so much fun improving upon (like fitting a better ignition system, better brakes, etc). Pushing me closer to ownership would be the good many of 308/328 owners that actually work on their cars, as opposed to those that insist only those related by blood to Enzo Ferrari must work on them, in special Italian air filled rooms...

Another observation is that there are an awful lot of used Ferraris out there that can be had for not much more than new luxury cars, like many Lexus and Mercedes, etc. But people have an strange unjustifiable fear of used cars, even ones that are just a few years old. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have the worst example of a Ferrari than the finest Mercedes/Lexus/BMW/Infiniti ever made. A rusty old 308GTSi has character in spades, while new cares have...nice shiny paint?
