Do paint stickers count for points? I would imagine if they did count, the judges could give us a lesson. What year do the stickers actually come into use? Paul at the DaytonaRegistry.com makes no reference to paint stickers (he does reference everything from the battery label to the brake master label), so did 365 GTB/4s' never come with them or are they just not needed for concourse? EDIT: Great pictorials Tony H. Did you make them?
I can't expound on MY knowledge, because I have so little, but here's a page detailing the ownership history of PPG/Ditzler/Italver. In the end, it looks like there was more corporate incest in the automotive paint industry in the 1960s than there is in the auto industry today. Italvar/Ditzler/PPG were apparently all related when the 365 GT 2+2s were being painted. I guess that's why I was able to get my lacquer and basecoat/topcoat paint formulae from PPG. If you don't want to read the history to dig out the details, the major quotes are: "In May of 1928 PPG purchased the Ditzler Color Company.", "In the early 1940's, Ditzler was renamed the Ditzler Color Division and became the centerpiece of the organization's automotive finishes business.", and finally, "In 1962 PPG bought a controlling interest in Peintures CORONA, a French coatings and resins manufacturer whose major business was in the architectural market. Shortly thereafter, PPG acquired Italver...a Milan based coatings and resins manufacturer." The full history is here: http://corporateportal.ppg.com/NA/Coatings/AutoOEMCoat/500_About/history.htm Now if I only knew what a 365 GT 2+2 paint sticker looked like and where on the car it was stuck. That's a great question. Surely someone like Alan Boe, Ed Niles, Marcel Massini, Wayne Ausbrooks, and the like could offer some feedback here. Gentlemen...? Alex, as an aside, the word "concourse" is never used to describe a Ferrari event; only "concours" (no 'e', and the 's' is silent) and "concorso" are deployed; a "concourse" is something completely different. For everyone/anyone interested, I saw a black 430 Scuderia today - sorry, no pictures - whose PPG sticker read as follows: Nero B/B FER 1250. So that's definitely a new one.
Tom... That's fantastic work, thank you very much for that information. I looked at all of the pictures I have and cannot find one picture that shows anything resembling a paint sticker. If I were, I'd start a thread in the vintage section where other owners of your model can better assist you.
LOL, that wasn't my intention, Alex. I just wanted to point it out here before someone pointed it out to you in person, at an event. Some people can be jerks about stuff like that; and others won't say anything at all. I would want to know if I'm not saying something correctly.
Thanks Carbon. I'll stand by and see if BigTex posts any Glidden stickers for the color. BTW tonyh, outstanding job on the Rosso color color comparison. The different shades side by side, despite possible monitor color differences, really illustrates differences in hue, intensity, etc. This would also be useful for other popular colors with a gazillion variations, like Grigio. Good job! Tom
Carbon, do you have this one? (Pictures from Sheehan) EDIT: I just noticed you do! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Alex, Daytonas did not have paint stickers. But the owners would get a can of Salchi paint in the correct color with their Ferrari. I have a can of this paint. I plan to add it to the Authenticity Page. Paul
Thank you Paul! Fantastic site you have and, I'm sure you already know, both emails listed at the site are full! Thanks again, Alex

I know this is an out of date reply; however I recently purchased 275 GTB 08669 which I assume is Argento Nurburgring "silver" and the paint code is Fer 101/C. Is there any differenced betweedn Argento Nurburgring and Argento Nurburgring Metalic or is 101/C just one color regardless of the written description? Thanks, Robert Wilder[/I]
Wow! Congrats on THAT Purchase!! LOL! In general the code numbers themselves govern, but I'd alway be wary if there's any difference in the description also, but in your case, obviously silver would be a metallic color..... The other thing to bear in mind is that the actual vendor of the paint systems has changed over the years, only the latest charts tonyh posted are PPG for instance, Glasurit was the vendor for a number of years, and our older models are Glidden Europe..
