Has anyone ever installed a center tunnel glove compartment on a LHD car? Its not available for LHD car(I don't understand why, but NA) unless there is technical reason I would love to have one in my car.

Interesting that in the pic the tunnel is missing the tray next to the ashtray and mirror controls. I've never seen one like that before

RHD consoles were slightly different from LHD consoles.

Though it's called a Glove Compartment, it's just a tray.

I believe member wblink (Bill) had a center console custom made for his 550. Try contacting him by PM.

Hello Mott's: After reading Terry's post several years ago, I decided to embark upon the same journey.
After contacting Maranello Classic Parts, www.ferraripart.co.uk
We had to make to request to Ferrari to have the piece made in 4208 (Tan) and from order to delivery, it was about 4 months. 168.00 pounds, 27.00 pounds freight and no VAT
Of course until It was confirmed the item was actually in hand, it was kind of up in the air.
Upon ordering, the first thing they asked for was my VIN#. I think the reason is, if you look at the Parts Diagram page 123 and refer to the tunnel cover (carpet) for right hand drive cars, it appears they have a different cover to accommodate the tray. Either some sort of cut out or perhaps sewn on Velcro to secure the tray, can,t really tell.
In any event I figured I could come up with a method of attachment once I had it in hand.
Their professionalism and follow up through out the process was exemplary.
    Good luck,
    Kent

Image Unavailable, Please Login Here is a photo of the tray in 4208 Beige. Being brand new, it appears in the photo to be a slight tint lighter than the interior, but we'll see if a few Lexol treatments and another 19 years of patina will even it out. It really does make the perfect compliment to the interior, not to mention being ideal for driving gloves and the cell phone.

If you want to try this, here are the leather codes used in the parts catalog and by Connolly, like the key fobs and other leather parts, the 2 digit code goes on the end of 652741xx. If anybody knows what leather color is represented by the 4 digit numbers on the list, let me know.

For 575M owners, there was a similar glove box available around Summer 2003 as an option.

Interesting, the base of the tray on my car (RHD) is black and not the leather colour as supplied on yours.

So I tried to find the part but "not available". The only way is to make one, any idea on how to attach the base to the floor not a fan of drilling in to the car.

I was hoping you would be able to score one. I just used some 1 1/2” Velcro. Prior to Maranello Classic Parts committing to the process of getting mine made, I seriously considered having someone 3D print the unit which I could then have covered in tan leather. Then to continue the carbon fiber theme I have through out, I considered having a piece of carbon fiber made for the tray insert. My concern is that anything other than leather driving gloves and the leather covered cell phone case would likely slide around taking corners, and that would be annoying to say nothing of scratching the carbon fiber.
Good luck. I think it makes for a tasteful addition to the interior.

I have a friend with a C&C machine maybe try to make one out aluminum or do a plastic 3D print and cover it in leather. Attaching is something I need to figure out. My garage door opener is attached with velcro:).

Very nice, but don’t see why you would need? I need a cup holder in my car for my morning coffee, instead of putting between my legs. LOL

I have been thinking about having a cup holder installed myself for a long time. The ashtray is exactly the same as on my Maserati 4200, and I replaced it with a cupholder. It was great for the morning coffee. However, I use the 550 more for Inger trips, usually together with a friend and then we both need a cup holder for drinks. It is not good to just have one... but there is another thing to bare in mind. These trips are often in hot climate, and you drink to cool down, unlike a coffee. Quite often, you want to leave the drink inside the car, and preferrably out of sun light. Hot soft drinks are a pain. And I prefer not to see it while driving. Therefor, I have found a good place which is out of sun light and not used for other purpouses. And that is just behind the hand brake! I want to install some kind of holder down there so it is possible to grab it with ease and put it back down even in the dark. Any ideas to which one?

Wait, I just use that as a tray to hold my phone… when you say box, do you mean it actually opens?

Nope, that is just close to what Ferrari calls it when it is obviously just a tray. Official text below from various sources.
