Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. [Vanny, I sent you an email].

To answer your question about this particular sign, we were asked to commission this piece for the owner of a dealership. The sign is very large and quite heavy (the sign face alone weighs close to 75lbs!).

The artwork was fired onto the sign face in a 1200 degree kiln using pigmented glass crystals that were hand applied onto heavy-guage enameling steel (much different than other reproductions that use spray-painted automotive paint over thin aluminum panels). Every color has to be fired seperately, so this sign took three firings. This is the same process used during the golden era of neon advertising from a period that was mainly used during the 1930's through the late 1950's. I've never been impressed with the quality associated with the painted aluminum reproductions that are flooding the market today, so I spent 5 years of research & trial and error to perfect this craft, but I finally acheived a process that is able to replicate historically accurate reproductions of exceptionally rare antique signs from the past. So, rather than searching for decades to locate an original Mohawk Gasoline neon sign that is in poor condition, but still commands in excess of $20K, we can reproduce a historically accurate sign for a fraction of the cost. Unless you are a sign expert you will never be able to tell the difference; only the licensing mark will indicate the sign is not an original NOS antique.

All of the neon tubing was bent by hand using only flame (see pics below). Its a meticulous process and takes a lot of man hours to perfect each sign.

Because the entire sign is fabricated entirely by hand this particular sign took 10 weeks to produce. It truly is a work of art and the pictures do not do justice.

We have received licensed agreements with a number of leading companies and will be launching a line of limited-edition signs begining with gas station brands; however, we have custom capabilities to reproduce any idea in porcelain enamel and neon if someone wants something truly unique for their home, garage or business (bar, restaurant, etc.).

In my opinion, nothing is nicer than the soft glow of neon.

    Thanks again.

Incredible work, I can't even imagine the labor involved in hand forming the horse's mane!

That sign is fantastic, I have to agree there is a lot of man hours gone into that piece of art.
