    1) The goal is not to be the richest guy in the morgue. (So buy it)
    2) You only live once. (So buy it)

Add yours to the list, the only rule is that it either must have worked on you personally or someone you know, no made up stuff please.

One morning I got out of bed and decided that I wanted to try out a starter F-car and see what the fuss was about....so i bought one. End of discussion. BTW, there are no rings on my fingers :)

A few months ago i decided i wanted another one..later vintage, maybe 12 cylinders. Now that I know what the fuss was all about, I am hopelessly addicted to F-cars and no further justification will ever be neccessary :D

Same for my Lotus. I wanted a toy car that made me smile and make trips to the supermarket fun. Will all the hassle of driving a 32 year old rolling restoration, it's still well worth it!

Dude, you said it right here; that right there should've kept you from even starting this thread... It could all be over tomorrow. You could die today. It can't get any clearer than that... There are people dying right now; right this very second, as you read this... People dying from natural causes, being being shot and stabbed, people dying from all sorts of stuff, RIGHT NOW.

Yeah, sure, it's morbid, but it's as clear as this can get. i think the last 4 years have told us that ANYthing can happen.

When i was 13, i was hit by a car. The doctor said i should've been dead... i lucked out with a few other accidents, too... i've had enough concussions that even i'm surprised i don't talk like Stallone in Rocky... Something could happen in two hours when i go to lunch and i may not be so lucky... It rained last night; it might rain today... Roads are slippery... i could misjudge something and plow into the back of a Hess truck or someone else could misjudge something and plow into me... Maybe someone will rob the Quizno's i'm gonna go to and decide to shoot me... i'm not really looking forward to a chest full of lead, but anything's possible... Less than a mile away from the Quizno's, is a bank that was robbed two weeks ago... Anything can happen. i could die today. So could you. Life is short. Stop posting and go make that dream come true.

Get it now before it looks like a mid-life crisis.

I can always get my money out of it later. (That's the one I used on my wife.)

If kerry wins the election, he's going to tax us to hell, so better buy it now while we still can.

There is none. If you need to rationalize a decision to buy a Ferrari, then perhaps you shouldn't buy one in the first place :)

A couple of years ago I was taken to Walter Reed. They turned to my wife and told her they did not know if I was going to survive with my kidneys, on dialisis or need a transplant. The next 24 hours would tell....surgery...my kidneys started up...lifes to short. After that I started buying my dream cars.

    Life is very short.

I personally needed little in the way of rationalization, but I am married, so there was a sales job involved:

-Just be glad I'm not into flying small airplanes or jumping out of them.

-At least I'm not spending that much money on some of the things guys my age spend it on, like Everest climbs.

-I'm not a golfer, hunter, or fisherman, all of which take time and money and would take me away from YOU for lots longer time periods than a few drives a week in the Ferrari and an occasional car meet. Besides, you can come with me. (She now loves the car and says she wouldn't let me sell it even if I got a fantastic offer.)

-In regard to the cost angle: I may put more into it upfront than I can get out of it immediately, but it is a bona fide classic and we could always sell it for enough to pay the bills very comfortably for a year. Plus, it will not depreciate like the new BMW 330i coupe I wanted before the latent Ferrari virus, present from the 1960's, became active again. (A 330 2+2 is not the fastest appreciating vintage Ferrari but I think the average asking price is up 20% or so from November '02, when I bought it.)

    Sold! :)

Because I have to work 90-100 hours a week for the rest of my (short) natural life, and if I have to drive to work, I ought to drive in something I like.

Because my wife just bought a new range rover.

One thing that most people overlook when they say, "I couldn't 'spend' $200k on a car" is that you're not SPENDING $200k, you are allocating that money. Granted, there is depreciation involved (especially for newer 12-cylinder cars), but those that bought brand new 360 Modenas in 1999 for $140k are feeling pretty darn good about that purchase right now, as they have driven a Ferrari for five years for about $3k annual depreciation (roughly 2% annually). Certainly, this is atypical, but it is still reality.

For those who buy used Ferraris, the reality is typically even better. I hope to buy a late-production 360 Modena in about 8 years (I'll be 30 years old). I expect I will pay about $90 - 100k for that car, and I think if I kept it five years and sold it, it would probably depreciate less than 30% in those five years. Assuming you don't get raped on maintenence (which is an assumption, nonetheless), this is a GREAT deal to be driving the greatest car the world has ever seen :) :)

    1) My 330 GT is appreciating in value.
    2) It has rear seats, so it's for my young son's best interest.
    3) Have you heard a real Ferrari V-12?
    4) Points, carbs and chains are a LOT cheaper to maintain.
    5) Enzo drove one.

Just think about this...today more then ever older people are dying and leaving significant amounts of money to their family. When you think about it...is it really right for someone to fall into all that money and for YOU to have earned it for them? Are you really doing them a favor? How can they learn not only the value of money, but more importantly learn to earn it on their own if you just drop it in their lap?

I don't care what anyone says and I'll apologize if I'm stepping on some trust-fund brats delusion: if you didn't earn your money, you ain't ****! I've met so many trust-funders who don't work, spend huge hours in therapy and wastefully attempt to pretend to pursue some dumbass career in something artsy...only to be deranged and mentally f'd-up, they were made dysfunctional by the easy money.

Bottom line: I'm not interested in funding my kids & grandkids life and doing for them what they should learn to do for themselves: I'm spending THEIR inheritence now, I f-in worked for it, it's MY money and I'm buying myself a Ferrari. I'm in the last house I plan to own (the proverbial 'dream-house'), bought the lake house for weekends and have the retirement plan worked out. As they say in "wheel of fortune"...I'd like to buy a vowell...so send Vanna up to the board and flip-over those letters that spell F-E-R-R-A-R-I

If you can afford it, you don't have to explain it.

You never know what is around the corner.....

....so it makes good sense to have a Ferrari which has better handling and brakes so you can avoid it!

I want to do everything I want to do, as long as it's okay w/ my family, so I don't have to say "I wish I did xxx" later.

Fortunately my family let me live the way I want. I just make adjustment as I go when I make mistakes.

There's much more I want to do!
