Ferrai is aiming to cut the long waiting lists prospective buyers are having to face when purchasing a new car. Chris Tutor of Autoblog reports Ferrari is raising factory output by 5% (or 283 more cars) per year. This comes as demand is growing in Asia, notably in China. Ferrari has opened a tech center and driving school there. Expect a Chinese auto concern to develop its own high-performance sports car called the Lamborarri.

At a recent 'tech' (i.e., sales) session at Ferrari Maserati San Diego, the host told us the 599 production was being cranked up and will exceed the 575M.

I guess if dealers are extorting $500K for them it makes sense.

Sounds like their spinning the increase in production(at the risk of the perception that their increasing supply too much) and claiming the reason is to satisfy the long wait. Whatever, this won't make much difference in the US as demand has gone up all over the place.

Sounds like if this true, will it really cut "waiting lists" in the US? Seems like it's increase is to help supply the increase demand over in China and the rest of Asia. Man, Ferrari put out 5,671 cars last year?

I love the this comment in the "comments" section of that blog:
"2. I, too, would love to see Ferraris as popular as Mustangs, but, I want the price on par with the Mustang as well. Get the price down that low and I'll consider buying an import.

Based on what I've read of Ferraris, they aren't worth my money as they're priced now. Ownership costs are too high, maintance is too high, etc."

Just curious: what does a major recession (say, it's a worldwide slow down) do to Ferrari prices?

I thought it was an April Fools joke, especially considering the Chinese Lamborarri.

I'd wager that a large number of owners are inflation proof.

Except Pap. He started with 3,000, IIRC.

Bah, maybe I spoke too soon in your defense.

What Ferrari are you driving now?

Ferrari is increasing production but so are all other car companys pretty much. I'm not saying more production is good or makes me happy but I'm just curious how the proportion of Ferrari's produced to all other cars produced would look like today compared to the past.

I don't own a Ferrari and producing more probably makes me closer to having a more depreciated used Ferrari someday but some how I still don't want them to increase production. I guess its like the marx brother quote "I don't want to be a member of any club that will accept me as a member"

Ferrari could crank out 10,000 more cars next year and I'd still never see one in Ohio/Michigan (not that I want them to increase production).
