    Hello from Germany,

just read in the newspaper, that for the first time the italian police did NOT sue a Pontiac Fiero / Ferrari-replica driver for driving too fast or for other trifles, but for product piracy !
In my opinion this is a whole new dimension regarding replicas.
The owner is threatened with prison up to three years.

Sorry; can't find an english language link.

    Best Regards from Germany

    Martin

Actually last week several cars, all 355 replicas on Pontiac Fiero chassis, have been inpounded in different cities in Italy by the police. The owners have all been arrested and released on bail on counterfeiting charges.
These cars were all manufactured in a nonspecified eastern country and had the Ferrari logo.

I was talking about it yesterday on the Ferrarichat that I would love a Mc Buirne daytona Spyder for everyday use ,But would not risk importing it to Italy as you proberly get arrested for it!
Amazing how some of these Repro Ferraris look like sh*t and some cost like a Real 328.

I am amazed about 3 years jail for a dude that can't afford the real deal, maybe the guy really would love a Ferrari but can't afford one then even gets thrown in prison! They should arest who deals them and makes them.
Maybe it was made in Naples (Napoli).
Napoli is big on counteirfeit items,They even counteirfeit and write made in China.

I think it's good, and should be done more often. Transportation authorities around the world should learn from them. Boy, the U.S. could really get some help. The amount of trash driving around is incredible.

The Italian authorities grandstanding as usual. I'm glad they don't have any more serious problems to solve. Like organized crime and corruption.

Since you live close to the source, please keep us posted on this.

I think this will all just blow over with no jail time whatsoever. After all we're talking here about a country that gives you amnesty for tax debts.

Just wait until those sharp Italian authorities arrest the entire performing troupe of the Lipizzaner Equestrian Tour for a raised stance that looks just a little too much like a certain Cavalino Rampante symbol.

    Babelfish translation:

ROME - After the ags and the dresses it counterfeits to you, arrive also false the Ferrari. The last fashion in fact of "taroccati" assets of lusso, in fact, regards the "just red ones" of Maranello. And as they demonstrate the various seizures operate to you from, Financial police (Rome Carrara the Mass, Alghero, Messina), do not seem to be a matter themselves of cases isolate to you. According to the investigators of it would deal of true and just a false stock of Ferrari, realized in close European Country and sold in Italy to a price that does not exceed the 15 mila euro. IT WATCHES THE IMAGES Seizure to Rome. The last episode regards Rome: just yesterday in understood them the soldiers of the Financial police they have seized one "F355 yellow, counterfeit Gts". To insospettire the financiers some imperceptible deliveries of the auto body that did not seem consistent to the model originate them. From the first moment Ferrari seemed to be just one: the auto body, the brand on the particular motor, inner and the other minimums reproduced the signs distinguished you of the little horse. The motor vehicle but turned out registered like Pontiac model "Fierce Gmc Gt". The investigators after some days of surveillances, in which they have reconstructed the movements and the habits of the owner of the motor vehicle, are themselves bring to you near a warehouse where he was hidden. The financiers have traced in this way the owner, a roman young person, that it has been denounced to free foot for counterfeiting, crime for which the confinement until to three years is previewed. Other "red" counterfeit ones. That one of "red" Rome is only the last episode of counterfeit. A false Ferrari "Berlinetta" F355 had been seized to first of september from the Financial police of Carrara Mass. The car counterfeited on Fierce Pontiac chassis, was acquired for 13 mila euro from a professional trentenne that it is denounced for receiving. The Finance had uncovered the false Ferrari because, from a fiscal reply, it was emerged that the man had acquired a Pontiac, but under its room had been always seen and only the Ferrari. Still before, in the slid July, an other false Ferrari had been recovered in Sardinia. To a carriage maker of Alghero, then denounced, it had been seized specially built the counterfeit one not only in the logo and the distinguished ones to you, but also in the entire auto body, reproduced faithfully using like module base a Pontiac motor vehicle. Surveyings left from the Sardinia, had then carried to an other seizure to Barcelona Sink of Gotto (Messina).

Can someone translate this section a bit better? Why is red in quotes? Does "rossa" have a different meaning that rossa?

That one of "red" Rome is only the last episode of counterfeit.

It seems police got suspicious because it looked like a Ferrari but not quite right. So what if you put round tail lights on a red MR2 and all the Ferrari badges, is that also an illegal replica, it looks like a Ferrari but it is not one, where is the limit? I say, let the kids play, it is not like trying to sell them as being a real Ferrari.
For a while in my town there was a red Fiero 308 that even had a license plate that shared 4 out of 6 digits with mine, and had better paint. I was not amused and people claimed to have seen me driving in places were I didn't go but to throw the driver in jail would be over the top.
