Way back when....2002/3 the only way I could see myself getting the car of my dreams was to get a replica!!! Well, not the MR2/355 copies, but to get a replica chassis ontop of a classic shape. I always wanted a 246GT, and found a company in Bridgewater who made the whole package using a Alfa 164 3ltr engine.

The build would cost £20K+, but the results looked amazing. Time passed by, circumstances changed and within 6 months i managed to buy my 348

One of the close matches to the Dino was the Deon replica, there are quite a few on the road, far more convincing than the Karman lookalike

Here's some good value on ebay - great entry point into replca ownership

I'd have a replica Ford GT40. Sat in one at Dick Lovetts, great bit of fun! I also loved JRS' P4.

So question is then, what replicas are acceptable? (Not meant in any derogatory manner to those that have owned or might own replicas). Its just that some do look crap to be honest and some look good.

Properly done GT40s, AC Cobras, D Type Jags I think are ok.

To me its the replicas that are more akin to kit cars are the problem and that is where the negative image comes from

Agreed, SteveW and I had various heated debates about these when I first joined (we're friends now:)).

To me anything that has a bodykit that looks like an original car with completely the wrong engine is a KIT car. i.e. 4 cylinder Mr2 pretending to be a 355.

An Ac cobra, Gt40, Jag etc..., built on a tube chassis with the correct engine i.e. Large ford v8 lump in a Cobra etc... is fine. Jmho

There was a stunning supercharged 3.5 litre V8 Countach at the uxbridge show last weekend. That did really look 70s cool.
