There's a "newish" member who's voting for a Yaris :D
Let's put some meat on that bone. The sound clip seems to me a flat plane v8. https://www.motor1.com/news/261838/mid-engined-chevy-corvette-spied/
I don't know but I bet it can be made to sound like that pretty easily and without voiding any warranty!
Ferrari and Corvette have been around about as long as each other. There's plenty of room in the market for both. Corvette at the economy end and Ferrari at the other. Does anyone consider new Acura NSX when contemplating pre-owned Ferrari?
I was thinking about this some more, and I think the scariest competitor is not another car company. I believe it's government regulations. If autonomous/electrical cars become not just the norm but 'mandated' it would be an interesting time for Ferrari.
Somewhere is my storage I have an old Ferrari ad in a frame. They never used to do too much print advertisiing as I understand it. It's very straight forward. It's a front 3/4 view of a 328 GTS, maybe taken slightly high. It has the Ferrari logo at the bottom and the only copy says: "We are the competition."
They don't have 1 clear competitor but multiple. For mid-engined cars it's Lamborghini and McLaren. For V12 GTs it's primarily Aston Martin and Bentley.
I feel this is the wrong question. I think they are all a threat. The Question is in what way are each one of them a threat? Because they all are a threat in SOME way.
I voted Other, to mean Uber, Apple, Lyft, Amazon, and anyone else who diverts the new generations from the joy of combustion engine cars to the belief that transportation is just a thing you leave to the lowest convenient bidder. It won't hit sales of the 812 or the new manual limited edition model, but it will erode the brand over years. Almost none of the top brands of anything 60 years ago are leaders now. I say that with sorrow and I hope I'm very wrong.
Hi everybody! to add on to Larry and Paul, what is the biggest market for our cars? The used market. It would be interesting to see how many use Ferrari's are actually sold in a year. Somehow Porsche has managed to have the strongest used market of nearly any brand. It's like every single 911 they made is the most special car in the world. They made a ton of these things and they out value our cars even though they were made in such higher production numbers. This especially comes in the place against the mid engine V-8 market. If you bought an air cooled Porsche over 10 years ago made a very healthy profit on your investment. It often vies with how the stock market performs. I feel like we had some growth in this space, but nowhere near Porsche.
i think ferrari has a lot of competition because the choices are different by model, by price point, by purpose etc. but guess what? it doesnt matter. every ferrari made is sold. and there is still a waiting list. the waiting list gets refused or tired of waiting and buys one of the others. the world turns.
The biggest threat to ferrari is Ferrari’s own arrogance. The reason they have serious competitors is directly related to this and the corresponding way they have and continue to treat customers.
