The 5 has nowhere near the abilities of the SD3. It was made to satisfy among other things the legal requirement for access to proprietary emission data.

If you want to be able to do broad spectrum work on 612 and newer get the SD3.

I have the SD3. Very steep learning curve, zero support from FNA or SpA. If your friend has recent FNA dealer training, that's about the only way the leverage the price of the tool. Email or PM me if you'd like to discuss.

    Brian,

When and what serial # ST5 have YOU used? Have you got ANY info to back those claims up? Where did you get the ridicolous answer "It was made to satisfy among other things the legal requirement for access to proprietary emission data"

That has NOTHING to with why the ST5 was manufactured!

The ST5 will without doubt have it's place in the market. It has endless abilities and has 100% support direct from the manufacturer. The tool has been out on the market for 90 days now, we are the sole US importers of the tool and i have demod the product to many different people and tested on many different cars. The progress we have made in 90 days is simply nothing short of amazing.

We can do any procedure on the F355 - 355 F1 excpet purge the brake pump for brake bleeding, this is currently a software issue and is been fixed.

We can perform P.I.S adjustments to F360 & F430, it also works on the 612 & Maserati 4200 series cars Motronic & F1 TRANS.

It has software for the Lamborghini Trans for both Murci & Gallardo.

There are maybe but a couple issues we have yet to rectify, Accessing the Anti Furto system is the main hurdle, but a very rarely needed application.

The tool has the ability to work on:

    348 - 512TR - 512M - 456GT - 456MGT - 550M - 575M - 360 - 360C - F430 - 612 - MASERATI 4200 - LAMBORGHINI GALLARDO - MURCIELAGO TRANSMISSION.

There is no doubt, that by the end of 2006, this tester will do 99% the SD3 Does, and surpass the SD2 & SD3 in many other ways. The SD2 will never work on the F430 - 612 Scaglietti.

Wait till Ferrrai do away with all software on the SD3 and leave those buyers in the dark, there is no legal binding for Ferrari to continue to support the SD3. Those people that paid $28k for the SD3. be carefull, you're at Ferrari's Mercy.

The ST5 has no license agreement and will NOT shut down after 12 months.

Brain, if you wish to eveluate the ST5 for FREE, please fell free to call me Monday and i'll be more than happy to ship you one for 30 days no obligation for you to evaluate and give accurate and un biased feedback.

I am here to answer any questions you guys have on the ST5.

    Respectfully,

    Kurt.

I have not used any. I did look into it with great interest when it first came out with an eye towards buying one and found it's advertised capabilities very lacking and not suitable to someone who specializes in repairing late model Ferrari's for a living. I no longer have the benefit of having the list of capabilities and available software in front of me so I do not remember my dissatisfaction with specificity. It in many ways reminded me of the very poor software for the SD2 that was provided years late by Ferrari to enable it to perform SD1 functions but with even more holes in it's capabilities. That (SD2 software) was a terrible joke laughed at even by the people at Ferrari but it did not stop the purveyors of SD2's from making outlandish promises as to it's abilities either. As far as buying one on the come in the hopes that Ferrari makes good on some nebulous promise to make it better, well all I can say is, Been there, done that. I have been in the Ferrari business since the 70's and am on my 4th decade of broken promises by them. We are all still waiting for promised improvements in the SD1 and SD2. As to your characterization of the SD3, you might be correct, but I think not, in any event we shall see. If you really desire to send me a unit for evaluation, go ahead, I'll give it a try. But be careful, if I don't like it any more than I think I will, I will say so. Then you can't just chalk up my objections to some nut case on the internet. It will be a statement by someone who's approval you sought.

Ferrari's game is a crooked one, no doubt. It is a table at which we all sit willingly. Ante up.

When you say support, they do offer training...at a price.

I meant technical support, like you might receive with a software package. Granted, calling some joker in a foreign country to get the advice "reboot the computer" is pretty lame, but at least there is somebody to call.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think FNA has a support/help desk for SD3 users calling from outside the dealer network. Truly, I would love to be wrong on this one!

They were offering a training program but support as you describe? We never got that at the dealer.

People that never worked in the dealers don't understand how on their own the dealers are. The reps varied by so much in willingness and ability it was crazy. One year you would have one that could not do enough for you, next one would not pick up the phone and could not tell you what Rossa Corsa translated to anyway. Last time I was in Italy on F biz there were 2 reps with us. One no longer with FNA would give us rides to the airport with Co transportation because he knew many of the guys were a little uncomfortable dealing with language barrier etc. The other guys words verbatum were, "F*** em". That in a nut shell is Ferrari.

As an example of the total lack and &^**&% you you're on your own attitude from Ferrari, a customer of ours that stepped up and bought the SD3 from us last year, has also now purchased the ST5 tester.

His reasoning, the SD3 is VERY difficult to use, and almost impossible to use in stand alone, the ST5 is ONLY used in stand alone. There is ZERO support on the SD3, hell, i purchased them, registered the SD3 with Digi Tech & still get NOTHING in support, i have emailed them time and time again with NOT ONE SINGLE REPLY.

Since i work hand in hand with the engineers of the ST5, there really is nothing we can't achieve. When i get a problem with communications or a customer has asked us for technical assistance, if i don't know the answer, or need a software update, within 24 hours, sometimes 48, i get a direct reply from the engineers and a resolution to the problem.

The software updates are frequent and new cars are added regular too. I just received the F430 - 612 - Maserati 4200 GT Updates.

We now have 4 units out there in the real world, 3 have purchased and the 4th is on a final evaluation. All the ST5 testers i shipped were sent for 30 days FREE evaluation, after trying them, they all purchased.

I'm that confident in the tester, that i have even flown to California to demo the product, spent 3 days in the bay area & sold the product, the shop that purchased it has also used the SD1 - SD2 - SD3 & they were very impressed with the abilities.

I'm more than happy to give out references to people, once i get permission from the owners.

I presume this is S.R. ? I've spoken to him several times... incredibly nice, patient, and "try-anything" kind of guy.

    Hi Kurt,

I'm quite a new comer in this field, anyway.. I've a SD3 (so no Lamborgini cars in it) and very pleased with it. I've recently acquired a gallardo and so now wondering about to move from SD3 to ST5. My very first question is: do existing cars and features in my SD3 are ALL applicable in a current ST5 ?

    thanks for your time.
