Matthew, I work at a Lambo dealer in Chicago, and there are two Ferrari dealers in our area, but your closest dealer would be Cauley Ferrari Maserati in West Bloomfield, which I think is about 15-20 min from Detroit. They seem to be pretty good people from what I have heard.

Cauley Ferrari/Maserati is indeed the place to go for all things Ferrari in the Detroit area. They have always been very good when it comes to service and knowledge of the cars. Joe in the service dept. is top notch IMO.

But isnt there ANOTHER place in metro Detroit with initials? I thought I'd seen a reference somewhere on the old board, but haven't been able to find it by searching. V&M or something?

My 355 is getting the final touches for the water pump and right cat work from a guy in Smiths Creek, MI just by Port Huron who is very trustworhty and quite an enthusiast. PM me for his name as he is shy about publicity because he is very humble. He's saved me loads and dispelled a lot of myths that the dealer likes to dish out. In his shop when I got there after a 45 min drive from Grosse Pointe are awesome vintage Ferrari's one of which is a Daytona with a brand new engine ready to go into the car. He has been mentioned in one of the post but I learned of him from my friend at The Motorcar Gallery. He basically does business by referrals. He found parts at lightspeed expediency than the dealers and at a "down to earth" prices.

    Have a safe 4th

First, let me say that I was just in MI and I stopped by Cauley on Monday. They seemed like friendly guys. The service bay was a little small and full so I don't think they will drag out service.

Vince, can you elaborate on the "myths"? I've got a 355 also and I'm interested in this info. Feel free to PM me if you would rather.

Terry Muir is the best in MI. He will pick up & deliver, very reasonable and extremely knowledgeable. I have seen 250 LWB cal spyders, 250 TDF's, @46 Dinos Boxers, Testarossas in his shop in all states of rebuild. He is an intuitive mechanic and won't waste your time and money or his. 810 367 3965

Does anyone know if there are independents that work on these stalloni’s in the motor city? Is Cauley all we got? Nice guys and good work but reluctant to do any exhaust mods on my car. Thanks!

Thanks I have heard of Terry. Not sure how to reach him though. I believe that Chucks name is spelled Kapala. I found his LinkedIn profile but no listing for him or the sports car center in Royal Oak. Appreciate your help though!

I wish it were that easy. I don’t have confidence in Motorwerks. Been there done that. I reached out to Nikolas Motor Sports in Pontiac to do the modification's that the dealer wouldn’t consider. They have worked on my 911 and do first class work. Not sure how much they will do outside of light maintenance and modifications. Definitely worth a try though.

Oh I would welcome your thoughts on MW (via PM if you prefer). It has been a long time since I took a car to them. Nikolas is by far my favorite independent shop in the area and am curious to see what they say in regards to working on your car.

I know the 2 Nikolas Bros. They've always done good work for me, albeit none Ferrari.

Jeremy at F8 sportscars in Troy. He does a lot of work on Ferraris, and is not afraid of mods. He’s generally very busy, but worth talking to.

@Sarc Took another car there for a brake job. Picked it up drove it came back said something not right. They looked at it said nothing wrong. Ended going back to dealer to find out pms in caliper were not replaced causing loose caliper. I didn’t bother calling to let them know. Billy the write up guy was so cavalier when I brought back I decided to just say fukkem. On another note.. took my 575M to Cauley after they had it for major. They insisted my no start problem was a bad immobillizee interface Even showed me the computer printout highlighting this finding. Was told that Ferrari no longer offers them. Said if I bought found one and bought it they would install. Did some research and found out that a different interface wouldn’t match up with my car so was worthless. Asked guru in AU to call dealer to explain this. He told dealer to check for any bad fuses or connections. $1,800 later I get a call that one of the fuses was loose. Car starts fine now. Taking car to Nikolas this week for miscellaneous work. I have a whole lot more confidence with them. Not sure that I would have purchased the car after finding out only workshop in my area is the dealer. I won’t be going back there unless absolutely no other option. I did hear that the Ferrari dealer in Chicago was very competent. Will probably truck car there if I ever need to. Fingers crossed I never do. Thanks to all for the help

Motorwerks just told me that they are no longer interested in anything heavy. Just basic maintainance like oil changes, spark plugs and what not.

I believe V&W is the place referred to earlier in this thread. Father and son. I also believe that both the father and the son worked at Maranello.
But a google search did not come up with anything. I have bused them for 15 years maybe they are not around anymore.

    Just throwing my $0.02 in:

    1) V&W Motors are great guys always willing to jump in and do various jobs; they replaced the engine mounts on my F355B in 2011. It was first time for engine mounts on F355B for them; they worked carefully, and properly (and fairly quickly...I think I was there for a total of 3 hours) installed the parts that I had brought them. If they don't have confidence that they can do a repair correctly, they tell you right off the bat.

    2) I had occasion to have Chuck Kapela diagnose what turned out to be some vacuum issues and to perform an oil change on my F355B in 2013. He did a through diagnosis and repair of the vacuum issue, and the oil change, for $1000. He is a straight-shooter and a good guy to talk Ferrari with. His home is in Royal Oak, and that's where you go with your car for repairs. He has secure garage workshop in a secure neighborhood. I believe he is semi-retired, and works on only one car at a time if he can help it.

    3) I'm well aware of the types of discussions regarding dealerships performing service, so I'll sidestep all that to inform that Cauley Ferrari has performed each and every service item on my two F355Bs (owned sequentially), except those cited above, since 2011, including two Major services. I do some minor things, like fluid changes, interior stuff, and other minor repairs, myself. They have saved me tons of money and time, and in cases where parts cost/availability were issues, they have conducted parts supplied by me into the repair. They've also found parts when no one else could. It's worth noting that they will not warranty parts that are not sourced by them; this is of course pure common sense. I'm not compensated by them, I don't shill for ANYONE, and honestly I haven't seen or spoken with any of them for some time, but can state that they have a talented bench of enthusiastic and conscientious techs and a well-equipped facility. The Aftersales Manager, Joe Abernethy, has no match that I've met when it comes to making any service a great experience down to the last detail, and the Cauley family have proven themselves to be true ambassadors and enthusiasts of the brand.

Thanks to other posters for listing others that I was not familiar with. F355 OWNERS NEED AND DESERVE OPTIONS!!!

I’d like to reiterate what was said here. Chuck Kapala is indeed an expert on all things Ferrari. Known him since the 1990s when I had a used 328 GTS. Performed several things that fixed issues.
When it comes to Cauley Ferrari, I cannot say enough good things about their service and expertise. Joe Abernethy is THE man when it comes to service. His tech team are the best as far as I’m concerned and i’ve purchased 6 Ferraris from them, 1 used,5 new, and they have always taken care of whatever issues I’ve had. Period.
The only other selection that I know of is Terry Muier, but I believe he’s getting close to retirement. And Nikolas Motorsports, but they specialize in Porsche.
