    Ferrari working to unbalance championship

    JUNE 4, 2018

Maurizio Arrivabene says he wants to "unbalance" the world championship starting this weekend in Canada.

The Italian, who is the notably reticent team boss at Ferrari, referred to the fact that so far in 2018, the top three teams also including Mercedes and Red Bull have each won two races apiece.

It is the most 'balanced' world championship for years, but "We will try to unbalance it now", Arrivabene told Sky Italia at the MogoGP round at Ferrari's own Mugello circuit.

"The commitment of Ferrari is to unbalance this very balanced championship," he added. "We will give it our all. The guys at home and those on the track are all giving 120pc," Arrivabene said.

Arrivabene also revealed that the mechanic whose leg was badly broken in Bahrain when he was struck by Kimi Raikkonen "is recovering and will return to the team in July".

Ferrari have best F1 engine now says Hamilton

    JULY 4, 2018

Ferrari may now have overtaken Mercedes as the maker of the best engine in formula one.

Red Bull competes with F1's third best engine, the Renault, whose boss Christian Horner said: "They (Ferrari) have a super engine.

"Our chassis is probably the best of the top three cars, but we couldn't get past them. They have power to spare," he told Brazil's Globo in Austria.

Horner's colleague Dr Helmut Marko agrees.

"You do not have to look too hard to see the impressive power they have," he said.

And even reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton thinks Ferrari has finally overtaken Mercedes in the power stakes.

"They're ahead of us in that sense, there's no question," said the Mercedes driver.

Even Sauber boss Frederic Vasseur admitted that the Swiss team's surprising boost in form this year is in large part due to the 2018 Ferrari engine.

"Having the same version of the Ferrari engine is making all the difference for us," he said.

"We are improving our chassis step by step, but it is undeniable that we have the help of this year's engine."

Wolff not accusing Ferrari of illegal engine

    JULY 23, 2018

Toto Wolff has played down reports Ferrari's 2018 power unit could be 'illegal'.

"We do not ask ourselves that," said the Mercedes boss.

At Hockenheim, with Ferrari clearly now leading in the horse power stakes, rumours swirled that a supposed trick with Ferrari's turbocharger had some rivals suspicious.

"It's not our attitude," Wolff added.

"We don't point the finger at other manufacturers. Instead, we ask ourselves 'Have we missed something?'"

However, he admitted that talks with the other manufacturers and the FIA will take place.

"We're working very closely with the FIA and also with the other manufacturers, but most of it is not in the public," said Wolff.

"Meetings such as this take place all the time to discuss various topics that have nothing to do with the Ferrari engine specifically."

Asked if he is 'worried' about Ferrari's engine power boost, Wolff answered: "Yes I am.

"But if Ferrari can make a step like that, then we have to be able to as well."

FIA clears legality of camera-blocking fan

    SEPTEMBER 18, 2018

F1's governing body has cleared Ferrari to keep using a controversial airbox fan.

In the Singapore pits, the Italian team was fitting a new bespoke 'cooling' device to its airbox, having been told by the FIA to stop the practice of crudely covering the on-board camera with a bag of ice.

It is believed Ferrari is determined to obscure the camera so that rivals cannot look into the cockpit and at the steering wheel settings of the 2018 car.

Germany's Bild newspaper said the FIA has cleared Ferrari to keep using the solution used by the Italian team in Singapore.

"We looked and it and the view is not blocked. It would only be a problem if the view was blocked," said F1 race director Charlie Whiting.

However, while the camera's view is not completely obscured by the 'cooling' solution, it is believed Ferrari has succeeded in blocking the view of the cockpit.

"We'll take another look, but it's not our top priority," Whiting insisted.
