When I was a tyke, growing up in Austin, Texas, the first Ferrari I ever saw was an early 1950s Spyder. Through the fog of memory, I can recall only a few things about it, notably that it was a "2.3" or "2.5", as we called them then, which is to say a 212 or 225. It was painted grey, probably originally, though the shop that owned it had it painted Rosso Corsa in, say, 1959. It may have been a Vignale Export Spyder (0218ET is an example). Subsequently, and well into the 1960's, it was part of a small collection displayed in a bar on Guadalupe Street, close to the University.

I've wondered for some time which Ferrari that was that so captured the imagination of a 4th grader, and what became of it.

Any ideas you Tifosi out there?

    I mean, of course: 212 = 2.5 and 225 = 2.7.
