I had a play in the steering rack / passenger side in the 78 GTS, decided to take it apart and check if I can rebuild it. Rack comes loose quite easy, bearing pulled with an inside puller. The passenger side bearings is a metal sleeve with rubberlike core (stamped "34 000 220" and "TP2").

Anyone know where to get this "bearing"?

If I cannot get the part I was thinking about having a metal shop make a bearing in bronze, anyone here restored their steering rack?

IIRC when I had my steering rack redone my mechanic went with bronze bearings like you are considering. As long as it isn't scored you should be ok.
Superformance should be able to help you though. http://www.superformance.co.uk/

That's actually the right approach, replace the bits with machined brass items I think, do we have a 'rebuild rack 'thread???
