So how is the Dyson, is it really worth the money?

Works pretty good but it's all plastic and it takes as long to clean as the carpet did.

My local vacuum cleaner dealer has a big Dyson display, sold me something else instead.

I have the purple one with all the attachments (animal) and while it does work pretty darn well, it does feel both plastic-y and heavy at the same time. Also, it seems an oversight that there's no front handle to facilitate stairs.

Still, nothing cleans up after my Rottweiler and 2 fuzzball cats better.

Buy, but buy on sale. ;)

I heard Jim Glickenhaus has a Dyson, but someone else told me it was actually a British built replica created around just the handle of a real Dyson... apparently he also has a 2003 Electrolux that has been redesigned to look like a '66 Electrolux... and get this, he actually cleans his house with them!

I love mine. You do have to watch the filter if you have a high dust environment like when I was doing renovations. But it is the best vacuum I have ever had.

I suppose they are good vacuums but I can't get past how cheap and plastic-ky they feel.

Do you have to take the engine out to replace the belt?

We recently bought some expensive carpet and the store said the fastest way to ruin it is to use a Dyson vacuum on it. They call them Dyson Carpet Shredders. The store doesn't sell vacs so I don't think they had any reason to be biased.

I have used the Dyson DC-17 Animal for about 4 yrs now and can't say enough about them. Between them, a Rainbow I had before and Electrolux, I would choose the Dyson any day of the week.

By the way, I got the DC-17 on clearance for $75. ;) I like to watch the clearance deals and pick things up cheap. I think that is why I have a fat wallet! ;)

If you want a deal on a Dyson, PM me. I found a couple of good prices on the DC-17 and the DC-25. (I have no financial interest in this deal. It is just something that I found and will pass on to others if interested.)

A Dyson is like a Vertu - they both do something basic & common. Is the extra style worth it? On a phone, perhaps, but not on a basic appliance. It's like a gold plated garbage disposal. Not my cup of tea...

I would have to say that the Dyson seems to appeal more towards people interested in the lastest Paris fashions and less for the lastest hardware from Detroit, Stuttgart or Maranello....

    Just saying.

"Generally speaking" You can vacuum all day with your fancy Dyson, and then I will come by with my Kirby and in one pass, pick up all the dirt you left behind.

No you don't have to remove the engine.

Factory spec's stated change belts every 50 hours but then the factory sent out a bulletin that said you should do it every 30. There have been many, many threads debating this issue on DysonChat.com
