A little insight of what is to come in 2008

"This new organisation is already looking ahead to the year 2009, when we will develop a kinetic system to reuse the energy produced by the car.

    This I have to see!

I seem to think Williams explored this terrority some time ago whereby they proposed to use regenerative braking.

Intersting though, i think this is what F1 should be about. Technical innovation.

The FIA's stance on cost cutting isn't the direction the sport should go.

I can see it now, the bodies will be made of solar cells, and this will be used to produce extra HP.

It is so amazing to see some of the technical advances that they make every year. I swear if Ferrari wanted to they could find the cure for cancer and the common cold at the same time in less than a month.

Maybe it will be an option on the nav computer on the 2009 cars

A proposal some time ago was to use kinetic enegry say from braking to store up energy in capcitors and then use them for enhanced overtaking. A boost button!!

Solar cells are quite what they intend!

Here are the rules regarding the KERS systems, new for 2009 (along with my analysis):

Not sure what to make of this rule. I guess they are just limiting you to one KERS device. Any other devices like the KERS are limited to 2 kW (2.68 hp) or if they yield more power they can only do it for a very short amount of time. (2 seconds at 13.8 hp)

Max power out of the KERS system is 60 kW or 80.46 hp. If you output at the max of 60 kW then your 400 kJ per lap will be expended in 6.667 seconds. So this is way different than other series where you might get 20 seconds per race.

No increasing of the energy while stopped. This means you can't have the engine charge up the batteries while idling in the pits. Up to interpretation if this means you must start the race with the system empty.

Also, the engineers aren't in control. No programming the car to use the extra power at the perfect times. aka Push to Pass buttons only.

You have to use the FIAs sensor to measure all of this stuff to prove your system is within the rules.
