You have a point since I'm still not convinced Honda really intended to cheat. It wasn't obvious, at least not to me.

I think the difference between illegal and unacceptable is defined by the immediate gain: The additional fuel weight they could drop (to go below spec weight) translates directly into time saved on the clock. Whether a flexing wing actually lets you gain anything is probably more of a speculation. To me the Viking horns on the McLaren look unacceptable in that sense, but nobody has disputed them and nobody copied them, so their advantage isn't as obvious either.

Just trying to explain what is hard to explain. Now if somebody could tell me please what was first: Chicken or egg?

You know, if Ferrari just just mounted the front camera in a different location this may have never been an issue.

no, each car has cameras at different locations; often cameras at similar locations... some have more, some have less.

it may be possible that FIA asked them to mount the camera there; but i dont have the answer to that.

about honda's "cheating" last year... i was told that most of the top teams had interpreted the rule quite similarly; and were running similar systems until honda was temporarily banned :(

aparently the ferrari rear wing resisted deformation enough to pass a ground inspection - making it legally a non-moving aero device. at speed, the dynamic pressure over the wing cause it to deform - just like every car on the field.

however, ferrari didnt have the additional support midway on the wing, allowing it to deform more in the center. this additional deformation allowed the airflow over the two elements to change advantageously at speed.

so it was legal, because it passed the test. however it wasnt acceptable because it wasnt right (of course this doesnt make any sense trying to explain it to someone)

why ferrari wasnt crucified for it? who knows. but maybe because they are ferrari (you know how everyone says that special consessions are made for them) also, they didnt gain a noticable advantage from this technology. how would this have looked if the two ferraris finished 1 second apart, but 30 seconds ahead of everyone else when nobody else ran this wing? simply, they didnt seem to benefit from it, so the screws werent tightened on them. why was honda singled out? dunno, sometimes its just not your day
