    From autoblog:

You've no doubt perused the big news coming out of Fiat-Chrysler's headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI today. But at the end of the brand discussions, Sergio Marchionne spoke briefly about an incredibly important, low-volume part of the Fiat-Chrysler empire: Ferrari.

"You do need one of these cars in your driveway," Marchionne joked. And while other brand heads today lined out detailed plans for future product, Sergio's words about Ferrari's next five years were very simple, and very vague.

Marchionne confirmed that Ferrari will launch a new car every year between now and 2018. The cars will have a four-year lifecycle, after which, "M" versions will be produced, with a separate four-year cadence. No specific models were mentioned during Marchionne's presentation.

Furthermore, the Fiat-Chrysler boss confirmed that Ferrari will not break its cap of limiting production to just 7,000 units per year. This is a "willful and intended" limitation by Ferrari, Marchionne said, but did note that the Italian automaker could ramp up production to 10,000 cars per year in the future.

Finally, Marchionne talked briefly about Ferrari's value as a whole, simply saying that the brand "is not for sale." Ferrari is a "phenomenal repository of value" for Fiat. Ninety percent of Ferrari's stock sits within Fiat and its shareholders, and as Marchionne says, "That's where it belongs."

    So does that mean:

    Cali M in 2014
    458 M in 2015
    FF M in 2016
    F12 M in 2017
    All new Cali in 2018
    All new 458 in 2019
    All new FF in 2020
    All new F12 in 2021

    Or something like that?

What does the "M" designation represent -- surely not Motorsport ala BMW?

modificata. Just like engine designations often have an "E" (F131E, for example) to indicate evoluzione

That's what it sounds like to me. This isn't new news. They announced years ago that they were going from the old ten year platform lifespan down to eight.

I recall also some mentioning of "targeting high-end customers with selective launch of special series" - would that imply something like a new FXX version of for example La Ferrari?

    Cheers, Niclas

"M" means: "Mamma Mia I hope this special version sells, especially since it costs 100.000 Euro more than the original."

Not good news for buyers of new Ferraris, but better news for the guys who would look for the previous generation supercars at 4-5 years old. IMHO.

Not sure this is a good idea whats wrong with releasing a new model every 3-4 with special models of those cars or little changes each year till a new model comes out? Seems like this may be too much for all involved in many ways

This all sounds very marketing-driven rather than technology-driven. Too neat and tidy.

So what´s the fuss about, they´ve doing this for years. Of course, most of the things they call "new models" are derivatives (Speciales, cabrio versions...) or rehashenings of older models.

I wonder what will be the Ferrari's answer to Porsche, now that the last one announced a 4 cylinder, 1,6lt sports car in the cayman size. I'm really curious!

I think the car's code will be 718.

Maybe they will build acar for pusrists. You know great mtor wituout fake overloud exhaust, stick no PS lithe and alive. Nah, no way thats part of the plan, after all besides those few thousand people who bough 997.2 GT3s who would buy such a car, and why do it when there is a treasure chest of profit to be made from fake CF add ons and deviated stiching..
