I know a lot of folks are shying away from hybrids because of possible battery replacement costs... do you think this (rather expensive) basically extended warranty will help alleviate those concerns?

    https://apple.news/A84YnNhWXRbeaB_D6OnCd2g

    "
Ferrari is to charge customers a €7,000 (£5,900) annual subscription fee in exchange for free battery replacements amid fears of burnout in its supercars.

The luxury car maker will reportedly offer an extended warranty service for its next generation of electric and hybrid vehicles in a bid to allay concerns about ageing battery packs.

The subscription will entitle drivers of supercars such as the €418,000 plug-in hybrid SF90 Stradale to a replacement battery after eight years, while defects will also be covered.

A second battery pack replacement is also covered after 16 years, Bloomberg reported.

The move underscores efforts by Ferrari chief executive Benedetto Vigna to find new sources of revenue for the Italian car manufacturer."

How does it make sense, when the today-quoted price by eurospares for the 296 HVB battery is about € 20,500 ?

presumably + installation which could be another chuck, still doesn't make sense though

there's no way I'd pay 70k every 10 years personally

Something doesn't add up, unless they start failing every 3 years. I was under the impression the Battery was warranted for longer than the car to start?

Battery is 5 year warranty. When I first read all of the articles I thought 7k wasn’t bad to extend it. Then I saw 7k per year. Something really does not add up

I saw this article basically it seems Vigna sees it as a new source of revenue. At some point people will get bored with being taken to the cleaners. It’s all about share price and adding revenue streams. What they should be doing is offering a battery upgrade path to customers. The day you buy your EV/hybrid the battery pack is obsolete given the speed the technology is moving and the time it takes to get a model to market:

How much does it cost to replace the battery to have that kind of cost? I remember McLaren trying to sell the Artura that they engineered it so that it would only cost about ~$6k/$7k to do the actual battery replacement. Ferrari is asking for about that per year for "just in case."

Just amused that "warranty" is now "subscription."

BMW guys are now laughing at us being dragged into that silliness.

Not sure about installation but to order the battery is approximately $20k +/- then throw labor and such ontop of that.

    Article sounds utter nonsense IMO
They should offer a 7 year warranty for a half million dollar car anyways

It’s simple, over $120k/car average isn’t enough. They want more and they assume the buyers will keep paying.

I think it's crazy personally, if you own two hybrid ferraris (which people will increasingly do) then 14k a year + servicing costs is a real pain to have to pay yearly, especially now that new Ferari's aren't holding their values in the modern climate so you can't offset depreciation with this fact

their share price is up considerably this year though...

What's so different about Ferrari batteries that they require special warranties? We all know that under the skin, a battery is a battery and an electric motor is an electric motor.

Ferrari is not selling cars nor batteries - it's a luxury brand, so the prices are aligned with luxury no matter what you buy :p

Will this be like belt changes? Could a hybrid Ferrari need a belt service and a hybrid battery swap every 3 years? How Ferrari of them.

This is what I thought (actually I thought $30k). Just weird to me if it's not an engine-out service. I know, "Ferrari-tax." But that's still not insignificant. Normally keep about $20k-$30k on hand just in case, but now it's that amount for a specific service date that's less than a decade away.

Surely a 3rd party will come up with a cheaper option as at these prices its good business. Its probably a 3rd party product anyway like the CF wheels

Ferrari has ripped out a page from the Apple playbook- planned obsolescence and if you don’t upgrade to the next best thing they make it increasingly difficult to stick with the old stuff.
A third party will crop up with a replacement- just hope they don’t catch fire!

OMG I would stay away for sure now! Backfire!

Ferrari is obviously hearing this from potential owners. But to offer it says "yah, there might be a problem but we will let you invest 21,000 Euro over 3 years to help you if the battery goes bad."

    WHAT THE HELL?

Looks like a post apocalyptic Ferrari.
The problem with lithium batteries is that you only need one bad one to cause a fire. It’s not often with well made batteries but unlike gasoline fires these don’t end when you douse them with water, foam or whatever- they are self oxygenated.
One wonders what the warranty is for cars that do suffer these catastrophic battery failures.
