Glad it is a hoax. Ferrari on Bio Diesel would be the end of my support. Luckily the Scuderia has more passion than the bureaucrats who run Audi.

As Bio Diesel mixed to 20% would produce even more than the R 10's 900 ft/lbs of torque and make it more likely that the R 10 would win overall at Le Mans, as it did at Sebring I for one hope Ferrari goes in this direction and starts winning sportscar races.

Audi looked at the rules and figured correctly that a diesel engine would give them an edge. From what I have heard at Paul Ricard the edge is quite a bit bigger than we are exptected to see this season.

And just like Luca Cordero di Montezemolo said once:
"Una Ferrari diesel? Si potrebbe fare, solo che.... Non sarebbe una Ferrari"

"A diesel Ferrari? We could make it, only... It wouldn't be a Ferrari"

My 275 GTB after a hard run when shut off often diesled. Anyone who does not go this route as I believe Audi will show will not be a contender in sports car racing. As my friend Jim sang: Strange Days...

I have no doubts that they made the right decision as engineers and a victory at Le Mans will proove them right. Technically. Just not emotionally. At least not for me. And what's the whole point of racing for a car manufacturer? Marketing. Maybe I'm the only one who feels that way, but a Diesel engine simply doesn't capture my emotions. Whether it wins or not.

Don't disagree but the young people who seriously believe that we have to do something about this which bio diesel would may feel a bit differently than us older farts...

    You're probably right.

What fuels it doesn't matter as long as it WINS. Racing is all about finding a competitive edge, and that's what you do to win.

I for one love the smell of alchohol in the morning, but those days are long gone as well. Sticking to something for sentimental reasons has very little to do with motor racing. It would have been like yelling at John Cooper for putting the engine behind the driver; didn't we used to say a car should be pulled and not pushed?

My only problem with the Audi is that the rules are just too lenient. The max for a turbocharged diesel is 5.5 litres whereas a turbocharged petrol is limited to 4 litres. I believe the ACO hugely underestimated the potential of diesel, maybe because of the half baked attempt(s) of the past with diesel engines.
