haven't seen any posts about this.. been to a few of these in the past and it was great. Anyone know if Ferrari of Washington is still doing these? I don't see anything under EVENTS like before.
This used to be pretty popular.. I emailed Redding Finney at Fwash but his email no longer works. Anyone?
That's probably because (unfortunately) he hasn't worked there in years. New management took over fwash a year or two ago and they haven't done any track events since. I *believe* it's because they don't want to put up the money for insurance.
W-T-F ! I got my Ferrari partly because I've been dying to actually run with Ferraris there in one! I had a Porsche turbo for a while and envied the sounds of Ferraris.. I guess I'll have to organize an event.. I've done it before
yea, the track days with FOW at Summit are long gone. Redding, as has already been stated, has long been gone from FOW and we miss him greatly!!! I did at least 12 track days with FOW at Summit and had a blast every time!
Yeah Robert I met you there.. I was the one with the yellow 911 turbo.. and another time I took my red 911. You and the other guy with yellow 360 (I forget his name) I met. That's too bad..
I did 3-4 events there with FoW (used to live in DC and still have a black NSX, hence my "name" DCNSX). Always had a great time. FCA-N.Carolina did a very nice 2-day track event at VIR last year, but this year they're putting their efforts into the FCA National Meet in Savannah, GA, (which is next week i think) so no DE is planned anywhere. One thing Marc the FCA-NC Prez mentioned to me is that they might do a DE at the new-ish NCCAR facility in Roanoke Rapids (off I-95 at the NC/VA border). I would love to do VIR, NCCAR or Summit with a group of exotics. Let me know if I can help recruit or organize. Most likely you'll need to be affiliated with some club to get the insurance. NCCAR is the cheapest of all the venues, I believe.
I too used to drive at most of the FOW events and really do miss them. I currently drive, and instruct with PCA - Potomac region. Come drive with us, so I won't be only Ferrari. Robert
I was just thinking today about how much I loved to go to these events, it really is too bad FoW won't do them anymore. I looked back through some of my pics and think I found some of your cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Some may recall that FoW did a one-day event last June. Another Summit track event is currently being considered for later this year. October perhaps. However, what current FoW management doesn't understand is that the track is often booked LONG in advance and organizations rarely give them up. Hard to just say, "great, lets go to the track next weekend." And, a one-day event is simply asinine. Two days or don't waste my time. Further, I'm not sure FoW makes any money on a track event. While it can certainly be argued that they do (depending on what revenues you count as derived from the track event), the marketing value alone cannot be ignored. When AA & Co. ran the show, they were DRIVERS, and, while the economics were important, actually driving them was just as. Current management may understand that but isn't willing to commit the funds. Or, maybe they just don't get it at all. They are not racers. They sell. That's all. Pure and simple. Kind of deflating, isn't it? CW
I think it was just a great way to treat your customers, simple as that. You have customers who spend tons of $$$ at your dealership, you give a little something back to them by organizing a way for them to use their car to the fullest. I wonder how many who bought 360s and 430s traded them in and bought stradales and scuds because of these track days. It'd be great if they put something on for October, haven't been up to Summit for at least 2 years.
A few random snaps from the 2006 national meet. How in the world was that five years ago already? You guys are lucky to get ferraris on the track. Socal has many many ferrari owners but almost nobody will track them.
Related, at all, to the infamous CGT accident maybe? We had a similar issue arise a number of years ago at a wounded warriors event at the Point. An ex-FoW salesman stuffed a Lamborghini during the event with a passenger. Basically, that's all she wrote for the wounded warriors ride alongs. Too bad. Passenger liability is risky, and the plentiful supply of under-worked plaintiff's attorneys makes the risks even greater. CW
I'd like to attend a Summit Point track day too! If one gets set up this year, I hope they announce it several weeks before the event takes place. Here's a pic from back in Oct 2007 at Summit. Image Unavailable, Please Login
If you want to run your Ferrari come to the East Coast Annual Ferrari Meet at Le Belle Macchine d'Italia. www.italiancarevents.com Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ron, I think thats one of mine, that was the first track event I ever attended. Here's another. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey, Chris- that's my NSX! Maybe we met that day? I do hope to get the Gallardo up to Summit sometime. Maybe this fall? I remember seeing an F40 stuck in traffic trying to get into Tyson's Corner one morning. I thought to myself - "that has to be a replica". But it was one of the former principals of FoW. Apparently he drove it 3-4 times a week. They supported a lot of 360 Challenge cars too, I believe. Let's hope the racing/track culture comes back to that dealership.
God bless Allie. He really was the driving force behind those wonderful days. Not common to see that level of activism in FNA dealer principals.
I know it is not FOW sponsored, but I have had my 360 out at Summit for three of their Friday At The Track events last year. It was a lot of fun! Big mix of cars there, everything from beaters, to Aston Martins and Porsches. It is too hot for me to go in the summer, but I will certainly be heading back in the fall. These are only one day events, but if you want to do a two day event, NASA offers a similar format to FATT in a two day event. NASA also holds event at VIR which I someday want to drive.
Robert I met you before.. I had the yellow Porsche 996 Turbo... and red 996 aero. I will have to sign up with PCA. I did track event last month with BMW, and doing another this Saturday with the F430. Would have to ping you on the next one. As for Track Events for FOW, this is the main reason I got the Ferrari. I did a few FOW events and I was in love with the Ferrari sounds I had to get one. So it's definitely paying back for them indirectly !
EMRA has a two day time trial you can participate in w/ a streetcar on the Summit Main track Nov 12-13th. http://www.emraracing.org/Register/Schedule.aspx
Next Potomac PCA event is August 12 -14 at Summit Point, main track. Potomac region maintains very high level of performance in its run groups and typically its drivers are at least one run group above most other clubs, also the ability to pass at any point on track (in Black and Red groups) is big benefit. As close to racing without potential for fighting for position in corners. With regard to FATT, I have had bad experience in the past, sometimes find race prepared cars passing without signals and creating dangerous conditions. Much better is Seat time. Also, PCA Potomac is at VIR for Labor Day weekend - Friday to Sunday. Robert
