I heard somewhere that Ferrari will cover problems that occur to a car even if it is being tracked and Porsche does not do this. Is this at all true and what is the extent of the coverage?

Mabye I misunderstood after reading the email again it's not that they will cover damage, but Ferrari won't VOID your warranty just because you tracked the car. It goes on to say that Porsche does. Is that true?

couldn't possibly imagine a road car warranty holding up after a car has been on a racetrack ... but then again I never thoguht I'd see the 10 year jaguar warranty!....the track warranty might be part of the additional extended warranty that ferrari sells for about 6G or so but I doubt it...would be great marketing if true and we'd probably know about it.

In the case of p-cars it depends on the dealer with most of them voiding it but not all. When my 360 was new there was never a talk about voiding it for tracking the car as a matter of fact FoW actually organizes the events

It's silly if they would void the warranty on something like an Enzo or CS, since they are TRACK cars, raw, barren powerful purposebuilt TRACK cars. They're supposed to be tracked, I'd think they'd realize that.

I thought it was the other way around. F car voids warranty if tracked but P car doesn't.

I never tracked my Ferraris, since I've always had a "track" car. But I had taken my P cars the track as a part of the dealers sponsored track days.

I thought it was a good idea for the dealer to sponsor track days, since after every couple, you needed brakes and an oil change anyway, it created business for them (c:

Ferrari's US warranty excludes coverage for such things as misuse, overloading, modifications, racing and/or competitions. Nothing in racing carries a warranty; I don't know why Ferrari should be expected to extend its warranty to cover track use.

This topic comes up periodically, as it did when the Porsche PCCB system seemed to disappoint some enthusiast owners. My own view is that, once you drive your car onto a track, all bets are off. Racetracks are for big boys, not for crybabies.

There may be a difference between scca type racing and ferarri club track events. My dealer knows I track my street 360 in club events and even has trasported the car to Laguna Seca and serviced it at the track with warranty coverage never an issue. I bought the two year extended power train warranty specifically to cover track weekends which he recommended.

A company cannot deny warranty coverage for track use unless that can prove that the track use constitutes "abuse" or an other prohibited use specified in the warranty. While I have never had a warranty issue with a Ferrari on the track, I have with my ex-BMW M3(syncros), Porsche 993(brake rotors) and Viper(rear end) and had no problem having the respective warranty cover the problem. I have heard of people having their disabled car towed home from the track and then towed from home to the dealer the next day to avoid any track use questions by the dealer...although I'm not sure how ethical that may be.

I'm new to all this so forgive me if my comments are way off beam but how do they use the word "tracked". Could this be amiguous wording covering only the scenario of the car being transported to the track as opposed to the car being used on a racetrack. In the biking world there is track bike insurance which essentially covers only those scenarios when the engine is turned off.

I guess the DL-90 and HotLap timer or AMB transponder clip on your bumper might give that away. But other than that... nothing really. =)

Ferrari builds these cars for the purpose of performing at its limits, a warranty should cover these cars while they're being driven as they were built to be driven.

Dodge has been known to cover cars towed from the track under warranty. once in a viper invitational event an instructor driving around the track with the owner in the car crashed the car and subsequently dodge gave the owner a new Viper.

although I am sure this is the exception as opposed to the rule.

If you are going to a sponsored track event, then you are assuming the responsibility of physical damage.

If an item broke due to use, and is covered on warrenty I doubt a dealer would deny it.

When you look at events like http://www.frenchquarterclassic.com/ , it would be hard to think that if something happened at the event that they would deny it.

Now, if you are at a SCCA event and the trany cracks open cause you were racing, that one is debatable, if that happened at a Ferrari sponsored event, I am sure it would be covered.

And again, if you are racing these cars, you shouldnt be concerned about the warrenty.

I love Track event days, and have always felt and seen that the dealer would assist in anyway for mechanical issues at those events, mainly they are showing support for the owner and car, as well most of those events have many potential NEW customers.
