Ferrari Transporter ** Warning ** Owners Beware

Well, that's disappointing. Last time I used them we drew a super nice husband and wife team who treated my 993 with kid gloves and showed up right on time both ends.

The fish stinks from the head down, however

 

I always see their trucks unloading high end classics at big car events. (And when my 308 was sold, Cars collected it at the specialist to ship it to the US).

 

Best way to avoid all this trouble, drive the car back yourself. When I bought my 612 from a dealer near Cleveland, my wife and I flew out and drove it back. Same thing with my FF, except that was from a dealer about 35 miles from my home, so my wife drove me to pick it up!

 

I get the scheduling sometimes, but I have NEVER understood why so many don't take a nice long drive in their new car and truly enjoy it... Miles do not matter to the serious buyer/collector as long as she is maintained.

Best memories of my life are the long trips learning the noises, listening to one artist's full album, and having that constant little twinge of uncertainty that I'll have to fix something on the way.

Get the friggin' thing dirty and make a story. That's more interesting than your garage space.

 

With you on newer cars <10 years old and I did that once with a Porsche. On a 30 year old Italian exotic car that never was driven much, even with a PPI would be a hard no for me....

 

I got “volunteered” into helping out pickup and delivery for a bunch of cars that were brokered thru a guy in NY.

He was the slimiest most dishonest person I’ve ever dealt with in my life. Got to the point where I basically told him to **** off. Then he made crap up about me to other people to try and cover his ass.

All of his drivers were routinely hours late and had the biggest pieces of **** I ever saw for transports. Most of the drivers looked and acted like they were straight out of prison. Guaranteed none of them had insurance.

All this to save a dollar and maximize the “dealers” profit on a sale. Clients had no idea just what was going on.

I too would only recommend using established, reputable companies as the OP suggests. The extra cost is worth it.

 

One of the best times I've had in my 328 was a multi-state trip. These cars are usable, and there's always an Fchatter nearby should something break.

The one thing both situations have in common though is the broker. Both owners and small dealers look for a cheaper option to save a few bucks and end up using these shady transport brokers.

I'll never understand how someone can have quarter of a million dollar car and jeopardize it trying to save a few hundred dollars.

By the time you realize your car is gone it's been loaded in a container in Miami long gone.

 

It's amazing how many transporters are Russian or Armenian and speak little to no English. I've never had any transport issues but at least half the transporters I've used fit this category and the bad ones certainly are doing a lot of damage for the good ones.

 

Not so sure about Horseless Carriage as a premium recommendation. They seem to be owned by an outfit called McCollisters now. They were willing to take my shipment now, but I found out they were going to the broker market for an independent hauler and still charge their normal fare. I realize the timing is not the best, but I expected better out of them...

 

I'm in New England....For "local" it's After Hours towing. Single car transport and everyone knows Vee.....Him and his son are the best in the biz....Nationally I've always used InterCity....good local company for me.....I learned early on that the schedule can change as they trying to maximize the route....Never had to worry if my car was going to arrive....

 

I just used Passport for coast to coast transport. Outstanding service.

 

I used Intercity because they own their own trucks and the drivers work directly for them. No farmed out work. https://intercitylines.com/. Other folks weren't even cheaper!

They were great and I would 100% use them again without any hesitation.

 

Passport is whom I've used ever since this whole shipping thing went tits up. That and the one guy I personally know and have used for 15 years.

Otherwise y'all can arrange for your own transport. ****s too crazy to get involved with.
