Hello my first post on here. Im looking for my first ferrari. I dont want to spend alot more than 40k. I know it is a low buget. If you guys could give me a couple of ferraris that fit my budget and are pretty reliable that would be really helpful. Thanks

Probably a Mondial QV or maybe 3.2, although I doubt you're getting a pristine car for <$40K. Probably a driver-level car.

Twice in one day we agree.

Mondial is the way to go, great drivign cars too. Condition and service records are verything, otherwise your 39k ferrari can be 50k before you notice anythign went wrong.

    Maybe, just maybe a 348.

When I purchased 9 years ago there was the 308, gt4 and Mondial. Super clapped out TRs even occasionally came up. Today, I think only the Mondial or as stated, a needy 348?

Haven't watched 456s but I think I've seen some get close to that level. I think the 400s have marched north.

I was checking out the 348s. I dont like the mondials that much though. Do the 348s have any major things that go wrong with them alot?

Try reading some of the sub-sections devoted to each model - all the problem areas and upsides & downsides will become much clearer

I think the 40k Ferrari becoming a 50 k Ferrari is far more likely with 348 than Mondial.

I'd stay with the QV or 3.2 Mondial on a tight budget.

As they say, the 3.2 Mondial is the best of the breed (the t is a different car) and the last truly affordable Ferrari. Meaning, affordable to buy AND to keep (when compared to any other Ferrari).

The Mondial is the biggest turd to come out of Maranello next to the 400/412 and 456...stick with a 348 if you're trying to ball on a budget.

It's okay, he takes his vintage distributers to the DEALER to calibrate them.....

I told him robertgarvin owns the machine required....

Sorry we did not check in last weekend, MotoGP schedule was crazy!

If you buy a 40k Ferrari you'd best have at least 10k put aside for repairs and maintence.

And, if you are looking at a 348, take a look at the Mondial T. Same drivetrain as the 348. But - you get a backseat.

Mondials are truly nice driving cars. Handle great, sound terrific, and great fun to drive.

If you really want to limit your expenditure to 40k, then I'd look at a nice 3.2 Mondial. You should be able to get one in the high 20s to low 30s. Then have some left over for maintenance.

No matter how pristine/perfect - keep in mind that these are 25 to 30 YO cars. You will need to maintain it. The 3.2 and QV are easy to maintain - especially if you are willing to do some of the work yourself.

Personally, I happen to think the Mondial Coupe is one of the best looking Ferraris, if not the best (after the 3x8). Very subtle curves, classic shape, comfy cabin.

Well from all the replys i think im going to go with the maserati gransport ( i know about the clutch life) instead of a ferrari. I think ferrari's just to much for my buget even though i can do almost all the work by myself because i have a lift at home. I just dont like the look of the mondials it just my opinion. I guess if i decide to go with a ferrari the one to get in my price range for my likes is the 348. Ill just have to keep researching

Pretty sure he was referring to the guy trashing Mondials, 412s, and 456s.

BRYM you are good to go he was talking about the guy trashing the above cars.
So stare at the grill of that Maserati for awhile, then ..... Stare at the Mondial grill for awhile ;)
Hell I also like 412/400 series and love the 456 cars also.

Could you explains why they are turds? Just curious about this well thought out and articulate post about balling on a budget.

As for the OP, good luck on your search. Maseratis are nice too.

Yeah i have a lot of thinking to do. Are ferrari's easy to work on if i have a lift? I think that might make my budget a little bigger if i can cut down on repair costs. I like that the maser is newer but it still has not great clutch life and is fairly expensive to replace. I would really like to have a horse in the grille of my car though too although I am not quite sure of the problems these cars can have either and how easy they are to fix. Decisions decisions.
