Ferrari is opposed to the switch to a 1.6 liter, 4-cylinder, turbo charged engine that would be used starting in 2013.

Ferari favors a 1.8 liter, 6-cylinder engine that would be easier to adapt from the current 2.4 liter V8s.

Here is an article on the subject. http://bit.ly/b2F7GT

    Absolutely right too!

And another thing - I wonder which would be less expensive - unlimited engines (develop as you you go) or the testing regime to enable 4 engines to survive the season? Under which scenario would more engines actually be made??

I too would be opposed if I were Ferrari, but not necessarily for the same reasons. At least in the near-term, how will building even the world's most terrific 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine benefit Ferrari's marketing efforts anywhere near as much as those of the other manufacturer teams (to the very limited extent that there are any left, or may be any in the future)?
Hard to imagine how "race on Sunday, sell on Monday" will apply to Ferrari if they're forced to build race engines that bear no relation to anything they sell for the street. Now if you're Renault, or maybe even Mercedes, or if you're trying to lure Toyota or Honda (or even BMW?) back to F1, maybe there's potential marketing value here, but I don't foresee Ferrari going back to building 4-bangers (or Turbos) for the street any time soon. Maybe KERS will trickle down to street Ferraris sometime soon, but the underlying architecture of these engines seems pretty alien to anything Ferrari is likely to build.

ehh... i get your point... but I don't think it really matters as much to the manufacturers as you might think...

Ferrari never made a V-10... and they raced V-10s. Everyone kinda knows that a formula 1 engine is just that... and technology from it is and can be adapted regardless of cylinder count and aspiration.
