Just throwing this out there . Figuring margins and what you want to pay for used cars can be tough because you never know what a dealer has in a used car . What do you think the margin would be in a well optioned 458? 10K, 20K ?? I recently looked at a local 2010 458 that was listed for 183k and they dropped the price 500 bucks . I laughed ! go look at mass produced domestics and they drop thousands when you walk in the door .

I know this is really not the same market or buyers but I also know that a lot of these 458's have been sitting for awhile and will probably do so depending on the stock market and time of the year .

What are we thinking ? If you are in the know or a dealer feel free to chime in also !

I just traded in my F430. I got $93k for it and the dealer had it listed at $114k and it sold in less than a month. not sure the sales price but probably close to ask. i bought a 458 and the dealer moved a few thousand bucks after several months. i hear the market is efficient because everyone lists online now so there is total transparency

Great reply ! I've looked at every 458 coupe and spider that's been for sale in the last few months and noticed wild price swings based on year , miles , and options. It's really hard to figure out where everything will end up pricewise .

Figure 15% margin for Ferrari dealers depending on area.

IMHO a 2010 @183k is overpriced despite whatever options it may have.

I'm not buying the car and I agree it's way overpriced but I'm wondering how much there is to work with on these units . There's a lot of overpriced 458's out there right now especially in the winter .

Go on eBay and filter "sold" and see what comes up. Go to Autotrader and look at what private sellers are asking. Typically on an exotic car, I'd say asking is always at least $10K over what they'll accept.

Find a car you want and offer what you think is a good price. Worst-case they'll say no. No one will sell a car at a price they don't want, likewise no one will turn down an offer at a price they're OK with. Make offers and move along.

Dealers may have many cars on consignment for which they do not really control the asked prices. Then the market decides. But when they have the cars on their own their interest is not to have long lasting inventory, I guess they could be happy with 5 to 10% margins for cars being worth more than $150K (the lower the price, the higher the margin since they need a minimum amount).

    It depends.
    Ferrari dealer vs other
Private seller with new car coming
    Consignment.

Do they know you? Do they think you’re a buyer?
What is inventory vs demand and time of year.

Me to Ferrari dealer on a 3 year old Cali: can you reduce the price at all?
Them: I am not authorized at this time to do a price reduction.....
    Me: I’ll take it.

Special spec, unique car, just reduced.

Several cars later- what’s the price to me? It’s listed minus 10k.
We have a relationship and they have some skin in the game with me as a customer. They also know I am price sensitive. Some are driven by exclusivity not price. There is a place for all of us in the business model.
On a 14 F12 in Abu Dhabi blu the dealer did not budge for 6 months and sold for asking.

The costs of floor plan financing for the dealer are low compared to the discount you’re asking.

Data is important but relationships are perhaps equally so.

Agree on the 2010 price being high.

Relationships truly are everything but I'm from the domestic side of things spending close to 35 years in dealership service departments . It takes a little getting used to dealers holding on to cars and not discounting them when potential buyers come in . I'm looking for a 458 but I'm more in the information fact finding mode and can tell you that I've gotten the bums rush from more than one sales person because of it . I can tell you if a sales person does not have the time to answer my questions and spend some time with me on a 200K purchase they will not get a dollar of my money .

I'm really no dummy and I would never waste anyone's time but it just reinforces the fact that you can be considered a target more than a client at many dealerships .
