    Howdy folks,

As a few of you know, (and many of you don't) I am partially responsible for the yet-to-be-released film from a recent Ferrari event. As we are editing the video, I have been deliberating about what sort of music to use in the movie. Although I already have some idea about it, I was hoping a poll might help me make my decision! For clarification, the movie includes a road rally, track event, and lots of other cool stuff.

*Note: I am aware of music licensing and the associated fees, so please ignore the "economic" aspect of this question and answer it solely based on what you like to hear.

I have specified poll options by genre. If you would like to make individual band or song suggestions, feel free to post'em up!

    Cheers,
    Richard

Jazz should - nay - must be listed separately from Classical. Far too great a difference between the 2.
    I chose Jazz.

From all of the car-related videos I've seen, I think that techno has gone best with the 'pump it up' kind of attitude and scenery depicted. A great example is the mischief3000 trailer.

any particular reasoning from the people who chose jazz and/or classical? That choice surprises me.

    PLEASE NO MUSIC AT ALL!

Remember, Ferrari's make music themselves! 2 songs at the time sounds bad.

Limit the music to segments where Ferrari engine sounds can't be heard.
Often someone will have great footage of a Ferrari only to drown out the wonderful engine sound with music.
Nothing sounds better than the #33 360 GT as it accelerates down the straight away at No Problem Raceway.
Richard any idea as to when you will begin shipping the videos?
    I can't wait.
    Thanks

Chip, the music own't override the engine sounds...don't worry! I agree that the #33 car sounded incredible...especially downshifting around turn #2....that thing is NASTY!

As for the video, I can only speculate...I am not the only person working on it, so I don't have complete control over that. Joe Zahavi is making an excellent effort as well, and he is the one who will be in charge of printing the video to tape and shipping it. The plan now is to finish the thing right around Thanksgiving and then spend a couple of days smoothing it out.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but...

It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing.

    nothing better imho

ascending and descending beats work perfectly with acceleration and deceleration

and since there are no words -dropping the volume and displacing it with engine noise is fairly seemless and unoticeable

let me know if you want any specific tracks

    Richard,

As a classically trained professional musician, high-end music/equipment reviewer, DAW owner... and longtime Tifosi... Each segment should have the music which sets the appropriate mood. This could also include no "music" at all as the sound of the car(s) would be the appropriate soundtrack. Hopefully you recorded the event(s) with proper mic technics for both stereo and 5.1 (7.1, etc) encoding/decoding. Feel free to e-mail me directly as i would be more than happy to analyze it on the various systems within my possession.

Any idea who you will be using as a mastering engineer? (Sterling Sound, Gatway Studios, etc)?

    Enjoy the Music,

    Steven R. Rochlin

Ferrari engines make the best music, but here is by far the best music/racing video I've ever seen. I agree with Steven that different music suits different moods, but here is one case where a single song NAILS it.

His sailing baritone harmonizes with the tenor wail of my Ferrari....both in Italian of course. Turning one up always results in turning up the other. :)
