I never noticed the fluting where the headlight bucket meets the pontoon before. Is it unique to that TR?
I thought that was unsual too. Looking at photos of another TR, I did not take them from a view that would show that detail. So I do not know if this unique to this car or if they all have it. Cheers Jim
Here are some pictures of the Admiral's car. He has owned this particular Mondial 500 since 1960. It will be unveiled at Pebble this year after a comprehensive and soul searching restoration. I came into the shop to find the Admiral wrestling a 40 gallon tank back into its proper environs in the back. I can only hope to have half the energy and nimbleness of the Admiral when I reach his age bracket! You gotta love a restoration of this magnitude, especially the care taken to preserve the bashed in bits done by mechanics in the heat of the moment! I wish I could show more then just some detail shots but that is reserved for after Pebble. regards ken Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Lovely! Here are a few from 0434MD---not nearly the job being done on the Admiral's car, and I apologize for the polished cam covers and red plug wires. It was done many years ago, when restoration standards were not what they are today Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
VIZSLA, I did a little more digging. It appears the fluting where the headlight bucket meets the pontoon is on at least 2 TR's. Cheers Jim Image Unavailable, Please Login

It is the "Oil Cap," and the practice of wireing it shut goes back to the 1920's (Amilcar Italia(French) or as it was called "The Poor Mans Bugatti). Reguardless these cars would vibrate, and absorb a lot of road vibrations so "wire rap," was used (to this day) to deture the loss of any parts concidered critical. AC Cobras had the "knock off's wired!" Later, Hank the Crank
